Robert Neill Obituary

Robert Neill
October 12, 1945 - June 23, 2021
Arroyo Grande, California - Although Bob's family roots originate in Georgia Bob was born in Elko, Nevada while his father was working for the railroad. Soon after his family packed up and moved to San Luis Obispo where his father became Train Master. Bob celebrated his first birthday at home, in one of the little cottages at the old Motel Inn. Bob said growing up in SLO was like growing up in Mayberry USA. As a kid he and a friend would fish and campout at Reservoir Canyon chowing down on Denny Moore Stew. As his teenage years rolled around you could find him on Saturday nights at the A&W Drive-In being served hamburgers by car-hops on skates. It was a time of 1950's Rock 'N Roll, drag races down the main street of town and listening to the Sentinels at Billy Rose's Rose Garden in Pismo Beach. His next-door neighbor taught him how to be a projectionist at the Fremont Theater in downtown SLO. He showed the movies at nights and on weekends during his high school and college years. In his early 20's he married Jody Nanniga and it wasn't too long before they had a bouncing baby boy, Scott. When he first hired on with Pacific Telephone, he worked nights and attended Cal Poly during the days. The Master of Ceremonies at his college graduation was none other than Governor Ronald Reagan of CA. Bob worked his way up from a mail carrier to Network Operations Manager at Ma Bell when he finally retired. While he was at the phone company he met another employee Linda, who later became the love of his life and his beloved wife. As a retiree he volunteered as Court Appointed Advocate for children who were neglected or abused. He had fond memories of spending time with these little ones, playing in the park and the creek and taking them to McDonalds for McNuggets. Bob fell in love with "Radio" and has been a volunteer DJ on four radio stations in the county for the last 18 years. His favorite genre is what he grew up with, Rock 'N Rock. As Bob would say "It has been a good run". Goodbye our kind and gentle friend; you will be solely missed by all of us who knew and loved you, but we know you now are playing music in the celestial heavens. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to radio stations KYXZ 107.9 FM in Grover Beach or KBEF 97.3 FM in Morro Bay.

My cousin Bob was a fun guy. He was older than me and always funny to be around. His Brother Mevin was more serious. His Dad ,my Uncle Charlie, was fun too. His Mom ,my aunt Jute , was very frail and so sweet. I enjoyed seeing Bob when he came back to visit. I truly wish I could have spent more time with him. Rest easy cousin

Bob is a precious memory to me. He was a good person and I know how much he cared and loved Linda, his wife.

He was apart of my youth and his family and my family in Shiloh, Ga were friends. I was set up for a date with him when we were both high school kids. He would visit in Georgia in the summers with his family and we always would see each other and enjoy our time together. I regret so much that I was not able to say goodbye to him for the final time - he was such a special person.

His death was a total shock to me and a sadness that I will not ever get over. It was a realization for me that life is so dear and the memories of my youth and Bob sadly had gone away.

My sincere sadness, of course, extends to Linda. I know she much miss him terribly.

I am so sad to hear of Bob´s passing. Bob was a very special person and a very good friend in my childhood days when growing up in Shiloh. I look back on our younger years with good memories. His brother, Melvin, was a good friend as well. Melvin always looked forward to Bob´s visits back to good old Shiloh, Georgia. It was a different time and place and I can´t imagine the present world without Bob in it. I am sure he will be missed by many people.

To Linda, his wife, my sincere condolences are extended.

I grew up with Bob and his brother Melvin. Also I was the other camper with Bob in Resavor Canyon. Living on Grove st was Maybury USA. He was a great child hood friend and has left many memories of the once in. Life time period in our life. Our neighborhood rocked always something going on from sunup to sundown. My mom would say did you have lunch? Sure Bobby´s moms made some ham sandwiches and lemonade. Fun time no cell phones no social media , (we were social media ) 4 channel on tv and it was free A time that will never happen again so glad I was there with Bobby to share that time with him.

I'm so sorry for your lost Scott. Uncle Bob you were one of the greatest men I ever knew and I'm going to be lost without you. I'm going to miss our everyday talks, laughs, going to miss hearing you say Hey Jamie Kid. I love you Uncle Bob

I am so sorry to hear about Bob's passing. Bob and his parents were our longtime neighbors on Grove St. and his son Scott, like a little brother to me.

I can still remember when Bob brought home his brand new blue 1970 Chevrolet Corvette. As a child I thought it was the most beautiful car I had ever seen. An opinion I held through college.

My father taught him how to run the movie projectors at the Fremont Theater and Bob ended-up being the relief projectionist for many years.

My condolences to Scotty and to Bob's wife Linda. May Bob rest in eternal peace.

I am so sorry to hear of my cousin Bob's passing. He was one of my favorite cousins. He was always so joking and pleasant to be around. He was much older than myself, but always found time to be friendly to me when he was visiting his mom and Dad in Manchester, Georgia. His mother was the younger sister to my mom.

Bob represents a loss of an old college friend from Cal Poly days and the loss of the world's greatest oldies music DJ. An old fashion DJ who played great classic rock and roll tunes.

Bob was one of those people I have stayed in touch with on a regular basis over the years. I will greatly miss not having him to converse with from time to time.

Remember the good times and the good music. God Bless You Bob!
