Sallie was such a kind lady one the best residents I ever had never complained. So sorry to hear of her passing my prayers and condolences to the family.

Sallie was an amazing mentor and friend. I met her through a presentation of TXSTATE's Wildlife Society and when we learned that I lived very close by in Red Rock, she encouraged me to stop by and learn everything I could about Raptor Rehab. For the next year and a half, I stopped by every morning to help with the morning feeds. Sallie quickly became a mentor to me, and I loved our morning chats and bringing fresh eggs from my family's farm for Sallie to use as she saw fit. We had some adventures together, during which I discovered Sallie's humor and breadth of experience (one morning we discovered a thieving rat snake and she jokingly suggested that we feed it to one of the raptors as payback for it stealing her mice). Release days will forever be a treasured memory in my mind. No matter the weather, Sallie would say as we would try to coax the birds out who were ready to return to the wild: "Today's a perfect day to soar." Whenever I get discouraged, I repeat her words and think of her every time I see a raptor soaring overhead. Sallie's legacy lives on through each of the lives she touched, including mine. She will be greatly missed, but never forgotten. I wish her family peace and comfort during this difficult time.

I met Sallie while working with captive non-releasable raptors in the Austin area. She was an incredible resource for raptor information, always readily willing to share her knowledge & expertise. I saw her work miracles with injured birds of prey, resulting in many amazing releases back into the wild. She certainly left her mark in wildlife conservation in central Texas & she will be missed.
