Ama Delevett Obituary

Ama Marieke Delevett
May 3, 1976 - Oct. 31, 2020
Santa Cruz
October 31, 2020, Ama Marieke Delevett passed peacefully from this world from a rare and aggressive lung cancer. She spent the last of her days surrounded by loved ones - including her husband, Nacho Palomo, and her Mother, Helga Kraft-Delevett. Ama lived her life with strength, beauty, and graceful wisdom.
Born in California, Ama also lived in Germany during different times of her life. She spent her early childhood at Esalen Institute, amidst Big Sur's wild beauty, a place of constant inspiration for her. She recalled with joy her preschool years at Gazebo Park School and enjoyed further experiences at the center throughout her life.
Ama had an appetite for adventure and always found her own path through the wilderness. Whether heading into the high Sierra without a tent, or swimming up a river to camp for the night, Ama always kept it interesting. You wouldn't suspect she suffered a bit given the smile she wore lying by a campfire under the stars. She chased experiences in wild places with people she cared about, didn't sweat the details, and kept us all laughing through good times and bad. It seemed the adventure was in her as much as it was out there.
Ama graduated with a Master's in Counseling Psychology from John F. Kennedy University and began her career as a therapist. In addition to her private practice, Ama worked for 15 years for Survivors Healing Center in Santa Cruz. She was one of those rare people filled with hope and light while helping others with their pain and loss. She dreamed of ending child sexual abuse in the world and she worked hard to do so. With a big smile, Ama would say: "I stand for love and for joy". She was a kind and generous person, willing to give you the shirt off her back. And she did. When we think of Ama, we think dream big, love big. She will be forever loved.
If you would like to honor Ama with a donation to Survivors Healing Center, you may do so at: https://fsa-cc.org/ways-to-give/donate-now or a check can be made out to Survivors Healing Center, and mailed Family Service Agency, 104 Walnut Avenue, Suite 208, Santa Cruz, CA 95060.

Not sure which of Ama´s many friends wrote this, but it is beautiful. I am blessed to have been her cousin, to have lived near her for the last 20+ years of her too-short life, and for my son to have known her. Dance on! Ich liebe dich, Weimar

I went through therapy with Ama for several years back when I lived in Santa Cruz, she was such a beautiful person and I am so saddened to of happened across this obituary by chance. She helped me in so many ways and I hope she is at peace. Sending light to her family.

I just found out about Ama's passing through a search because I wanted to reach out to her and thank her for making a big impact on me when I was an intern for her back in 2017. I'm deeply saddened by this news. I remember she gave me this book called "The Courage to Heal" and I didn't know it at the time, but present day the book has meant so much to me in my own healing journey.

Ama saw the potential in me and I won't ever forget her.

I just found out about Ama's passing. I just want to wish Helga a very Happy Mother's Day, happy, not because Ama is not here but because Ama was such an incredible gift. In gratitude I honor the mother who brought forth the beautiful, nurturing, kind, loving, healing, intelligent and so I've heard, adventurous spirit in Ama.

She helped me a great deal. Her sympathy for my pain was healing. She was wise and loving. Her spirit still stands for love and joy in my heart.

Some years ago, when Ama was in Intern, I had the pleasure to work with her. We challenged one another in all the best ways possible....and, we laughed. That was my favorite part. I was fortunate to run into her a year or so ago, when I was visiting Santa Cruz, and had the opportunity to catch up. I’ll miss you, Ama. Much love to her husband, other family, and friends.
