Audrey Elizabeth Rood passed away on April 2, 2011 at her home in Capitola. She was 92 years old. Born January 20, 1919, to William L. & Flora Jane Duncan in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. She grew up in Canada and later moved to Long Beach, California in 1957. In 1970 she found the comforts of her hometown in Capitola, California where she resided for the remainder of her life enjoying swimming, long walks to the beach, the forest-like surroundings, playing bingo and sing-alongs and potlucks with her many friends.
Audrey devoted & shared her life with her family, beginning with eight siblings, Carl, Donald, Robert, Vernon, Jack, Reginald, Bruce, and Mary. Four children, Jane, Beverly, John & wife Gail, Elizabeth & husband Dallas. Eight grandchildren, Darrell, Cherrill, Michell, Michael, Jason, Jennifer, Kevin, & Kyle. Lastly, eleven great grandchildren, Tiffanie, Christopher, Frank, Shane, Jacob, Marc, Morgan, Kori, Jacob, Kayla, & Jayden.
As a mom or Nannie she was a "true" definition of a Mother & Grandmother.
Nannie possessed a tremendous amount of patience for children and her grandchildren. She was a comforting shoulder to cry on, as well as a playmate. She always had a way of making you giggle or just feel better about yourself. Nannie devoted so much of her life to her grandchildren. Her door and her arms were always open no matter the situation. Nannie was fun, and you could count on her to take you swimming, fishing, shopping, walks to the beach, bakery, berry picking, or to McDonald's for an ice cream cone. Whether if was the mom hat or Nannie hat, memories is what she created, memories is what she left us with and they will live on. She is and was an Amazing Woman.

My wishes go to the family and especially my very best friend Jane for the lost of their mother. Oh yes, I am the one who hand knitted the Christmas slippers for Mrs. Rood the last two years. She insisted I did, however, I didn't, but I made her happy to think I did. I remember how your mom was always so nice to me when I saw her. Always straight to the point. May you remember the best times with her and hold them in your hearts.

I want to thank our friends for the prayers & condolences. My Mom was a special person, she was funny, stern but gentle. She went above the call of duty when it came to her Children and Grandchildren. She was the strong person you wanted in your corner. She was always in my corner, still is! I know she will always be watching over us. I'm very fortunate to have her as my Angel.
I Love you Mom

Jane,
I am deeply sorry and my prayers are with you and your family. I have a candle lit already for your mom. I know that you were a good daughter to your mom. I know how you must be feeling but it will get easier as the days pass. I will continue to pray for her and for you. Your friend in Texas. ag

Mom Your candle is lit, you guided us all through life and taught us tradition, family and values in the old way. May Your light cantinue to guide and protect us and help us make the right choices. Your journey was a long one, the train leaves the station and we get on, we meet people on the way, some get off quickly never knowing we were there, others ride a little further, sharing the seat next to us along with the aspects of our life, good and bad, some get off sooner than others and some will ride to the end with us. You have reached your final destination - it has been a wonderful ride full of joy, heartache, happiness and headaches, but you shared the ride with many and showed kindness and understanding to all you met. I have a hurt in my heart but you are worth it. You are the light at the end of the tunnel, our ride is not over yet, so remember who the conductor is and you cannot be boss anymore. God is boss now, so sit back and rest. Your journey is over.
Love you, Daughter Jane
