Native of Santa Cruz who lived in the Victorian Home where she was born.
Truella graduated from Gault School, Branciforte School and Holy Cross class of 32. She then went to Mills College for which she graduated with a BA in Speech and Drama. Next Truella attended UOP in Stockton, working on her Masters in Speech. It was in Stockton that she met Virgil Victor Lund, her future husband.
Right before the breakout of WWII she returned to Santa Cruz and worked as a clerk in the County Auditor's Office. During the war, Truella was hired as the first Policewoman for the City of Santa Cruz. She was the Desk Sergeant on the 4pm to midnight shift. Here she booked prisoners, handled phone calls and dispatched SC Police, SC Sheriffs and Highway Patrol officers. She left her position in 1948 to raise a family.
In 1953, Truella became interested in puppets. She and a friend, Angela Combs, started the Hobby House Puppet Theater, with classes for children, special puppet shows and TV programs. On the weekends she and Angela spent weekends and holidays at Santa's Village in the Puppet Theater Concession.
In 1955, Truella became a caseworker for the Social Welfare Department. She eventually became supervisor in charge of Social Services working with Nursing or Boarding Homes, Day Care and Foster Care Licensing.
Truella received her Driver's License when she was 12. In those days the Highway Patrol issued licenses. Truella would take the train to SF and drive back the cars her father would sell at his car dealership at Front and Cooper.
She was a member of Native Daughter's of the Golden West, Soroptimist International, and America Association of University Women.
Truella is survived by daughter, Truene Lund of Colorado, son, Otto Lund, daughter-in-law, Joyce T Lund, and grand children, Karl T Lund, Isaac N Lund and Audrey M Lund all of Santa Cruz.
Friends are invited to the family home on November 28, 2008 from noon to 3PM to join the family in celebrating her life.

I have many fond memories of Truella. My mom worked under her at Social Services at the County Hospital. She had great respect for her. My memories include babysitting, puppet shows at Santa's Village with Mrs. Combs, and her interaction with our Scout Troop. She will be sorely missed as will her community service. My condolences to her family and close friends.

Dear Family of Truella,
I was privileged to meet Truella at a Native Daughters Mission Restoration luncheon at Gilbert's on the Wharf. What a great lady she was! She will be missed.

Dear Family & Friends of Truella,
Another pillar of Santa Cruz history meets her Reward. My dad had such great stories of days of Truella in the Police Dept., etc. I have fond memories of ballroom dance classes at Arion Hall, circa - jr. high, & our "grad party" at Pogonip -- and a wonderful pict of Otto.
Truella -- with Native Daughters of the Golden West love, you will be missed.
Sincerely,
