Betsy Bell Obituary

Betsy Sue Bell

1960-2021

Betsy Sue Bell fought to live with severe asthma her whole life. The asthma took a toll on her heart, which stopped October 4, 2021. Betsy was born on November 30, 1960 to Lloyd and Sue Bell. She grew up in Aspen, CO, in the mountains she loved. Betsy's greatest joy in life were her daughters and her grandchildren. She was an amazing mother, and always did her best for her girls. Betsy would sew them beautiful dresses and enjoyed doing many other crafts, often times selling them for extra money for her girls. Betsy was a talented photographer, an avid reader, gardener, and an excellent cook. Betsy loved arranging flowers and she would make gorgeous arrangements for friends, family, and often people she didn't even know just to cheer them up. Betsy would surprise customers at the Orcutt Post Office with flower arrangements and treats to bring them smiles. Betsy always had a smile for her customers and friends, and she loved her community. Betsy was dedicated to doing acts of kindness and keeping them between her and God. Betsy loved bringing others joy. She did the best she could to live like Jesus and was a testament to His love in her life. Betsy was able to even reach atheists and share her faith without preaching a word. Betsy went to school along with her girls and earned her associates degree from Allan Hancock College with a 4.0 GPA, after which she went to work for the United States Postal Service. Betsy worked at the Santa Maria post office for 30 years. She especially loved working the customer service office and helping folks with their passports and mail problems. She spent the last several years as a clerk in Orcutt where she loved serving her community. Betsy was the shop steward for her local APWU for many years, and supporting labor unions was important to her. Betsy was a friend of Bill W's and loved her 12 step fellowship. Betsy is survived by her daughters, Rachel Morgan (Lee) of San Jose, CA and Valerie Conrey (Justin) of Vancouver, WA, and grandchildren Lillian, Jacob, Elliot, Amelia, and Hudson. Betsy was preceded in death by her mother Winifred Sue Streater, father Lloyd Edward Bell, sister JoAnne Fletcher, and brother Greg Streater. A Celebration of Betsy's life will be announced at a later date.

Betsy Bell was my beautiful cousin. My mom was her dad´s sister. I wanted to share a favorite memory of visiting her in Aspen. We were around 9 and 12- Betsy took me out for an evening bike ride and asked if I wanted to see where the vampires lived! Well what kid can say no? We went to a very small local funeral home ( looked just like a big creepy house) and peered in the windows - needless to say 9 year old me was convinced it was, in fact, the home of vampires. I left her, my bike and my bags and ran all the way home! I´m not sure she ever forgave me for getting her in so much trouble.
Been searching online off and on for years trying to find her. My heart breaks it wasn´t until
Now and it´s too late to catch up on so many lost years.
Such a beautiful fun loving soul.

While I only had a short time to manage Betsy she seemed to be a truly genuine person. I know her family and friends miss her immensely. She left this world way to early. God Bless!

“In all the world, there is no heart for me like yours.
In all the world, there is no love for you like mine.”

Betsy Bell was not just my mom, but my best friend. There is an emptiness in my heart now that she is gone, I can’t count how many times a day I’m reminded of her in some way. I miss her voice, her compassion, and her stories. I’m heartbroken that my son will grow up without her.

Betsy was always there whether it was to bounce ideas off of or to cheer you up when you were down. She was a good friend and will be sorely missed. After knowing her thru her Postal career we grew to be good friends. She was always thinking about her girls. She loved you guys immensely.
