John Meyer Obituary

John Lee Meyer
1968 - 2009
Johnny Meyer passed away on Thanksgiving morning, November 26, 2009 at the young age of 41. He passed peacefully at home in Santa Maria with his loving family right by his side. He bravely fought a brain tumor for the past 12 years, never complaining, and never once gave up in his determination to live.
He is survived by his heartbroken family - parents Bill and Ernestine Meyer of Santa Maria, brother Will Meyer of Santa Ynez, sister Becky Barrackman of Oregon, his beloved little daughter Johnna Meyer of Orcutt, and his uncle Dale Meyer of Termo. He also leaves behind his sister-in-law Leah Meyer, brother-in-law Chad Barrackman, and his nieces and nephews whom he loved so much, Kasey & Cody Barrackman of Santa Maria, Luke & Wyatt Meyer of Santa Ynez, Lynsey Cates of Santa Maria, great-nephew Anthony Delfin of Santa Maria. He is survived by many uncles, aunts & cousins as well.
He also leaves his devoted friends, including Jake & Jennifer Bender, Dale & Stephanie Rolando, Jenny Murphy, Jeff Knowlton, Dave Conklin, and the Gotchal family.
Johnny was a lifetime resident of Santa Maria, born on April 12th, 1968 at Valley Hospital, the middle child of Bill and Ernestine. He always loved to tinker on things, starting with dismantling his crib as a two-year old, and eventually becoming an incredible mechanic. If anyone had the gift of gab, it was Johnny, who loved to keep in touch with his family and friends by telephone on a daily basis sometimes several times per day! His chattiness and sense of humor will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him. Johnny loved getting the whole family together to go to the rodeo, where he did his yearly shopping for T-shirts. He loved to wear his baseball hat with his sunglasses on top, and huge belt buckles with his Wranglers. He was one-of-a-kind and the kind of person that kept family and friendships together throughout the years.
The family wishes to extend a huge thanks to his friends who helped so much during these last few months especially Jennifer Bender. Special thanks to Jenny Murphy, Ortie Rincon and Evie Knapp for their visits and help during these last few weeks. Thanks to Dr. Arain, Dr. Kundaria and their wonderful, supportive staffs. Johnny actually liked going to the doctors so he could flirt with the nurses and staff! A special thanks to Sue Hannigan and the staff at Solutions of Santa Barbara, where he loved it so much that he never wanted to leave. Thanks to Marian Hospice for their kindness, especially Nurse Ena. And most of all, the family would like to thank Dr. Mitchel Berger of the UC San Francisco Brain Tumor Research Program, who never gave up on Johnny, and performed three successful surgeries on him, giving him 12 extra years of life. The family wishes to thank everyone who has prayed for Johnny and supported him and his family throughout his illness. It is truly appreciated.
A service to celebrate his life will be held on Friday, December 4th, 2009 at 11 AM at South Valley Community Church, 1054 E. Clark Ave, Santa Maria, CA 93455. All who knew Johnny are invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, you may make a donation for his daughter Johnna Meyer c/o Community Bank of Santa Maria.
Arrangements are in the care of Magner-Maloney Funeral Home and Crematory. Sympathy notes and words of support may be expressed at www.magnermaloney.com.

Johnny truly was "one-of-akind". We all loved him and embrased him into our hearts and families. He lit up our lives with his smile and sense of wit. When cell phones would start going off everyone would look at each other as to who would be the one to answer johnnys call, depending on the time of day! He was the bright spot in everyones life. He will be missed. I wonder what kind of angel Johnny is going to make?!
