John Sua Obituary

John Michael Sua

December 18, 1990 September 25, 2021

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of John Michael Sua. John passed away September 25, 2021 with his mother and siblings at his bedside. John was born on December 18, 1990 to loving parents Tom and Lagi Sua. He is the second born child, with old brother Thomas, younger sister and brother Veronica and Matthew. John grew up in Santa Maria, CA and attended Joe Nightingale Elementary. It was there where John would begin his journey in sports as he played quarterback for the flag football team at school, which in fact, won the championship. John played in the Orcutt Youth Football league and Orcutt American Baseball league as a child and going into Lakeview Junior High. He was a part of OYFL's first senior team to ever win the super bowl, the Orcutt Raiders. From there, John attended St. Joseph High school where he would make a big impact on their football team, all four years, as he played both offense and defense. After graduating from St. Joes in 2009 he went on to play for Allan Hancock College where he made first team all conference his sophomore year, then he would transfer to Kansas State University to play Division 1 NCAA football as a walk on. John earned a scholarship soon after he walked onto the team. John started every game his senior year at K-State as they went on to win the Big12 Championship. During his two seasons at Kansas, their team made it to two major bowl games the Cotton Bowl and Fiesta Bowl. John graduated in 2013 earning his Bachelor's degree in social science. After graduating John had decided that it was time to hang up his cleats and say goodbye to football and return home to Santa Maria. To help his family out John began working as a security guard at the Chumash Casino in 2014. In 2015 John transferred to surveillance as an observer. John would later find himself back involved in football where he supported and taught his techniques to his younger nephews just beginning their football journey. John was a man of few words, but he had the biggest heart. John would be there and show up for anyone he loved rain or shine. To his family and close friends he was well known to always goof around and make everyone laugh. While John's father Tom Sua was fighting his battle with cancer, there was not one day John would be away, or an appointment he would miss. He made any sacrifice to be there for his parents and siblings. John was a light to many and will be missed dearly. John is survived by his mother Lagi Sua, brothers Thomas Jr. (Kassie) Sua, Matthew Sua, sister Veronica Sua, and nephew Thomas Sua III. He is proceeded in death by his father Tom Sua Sr. John was an amazing and loving Godfather to his Goddaughter Isabella Ojeda, and his soon to be Godson Thomas Sua III. John leaves behind many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends who will miss him greatly. Our family encourages everyone to please join us in celebrating John's life Sunday October 10, 2021 at Dudley-Hoffman mortuary. Public viewing and rosary will be from 4-7pm. Monday October 11, 2021 mass will be held at St. Louis De Montfort church at 10:30am with burial at Santa Maria Cemetery to follow. We will hold a celebration of life at Waller Park at the Lakeside Terrace area. We thank you all for the outpour of love and support during these difficult times.

My favorite memory of John was the little league home runs that went into the neighborhood yards and may have broken a solar panel. I so loved John. In varsity football I would always say “I love you John Sua” which may have embarrassed him. But I was truly grateful for his protection of Gavin and teammates. He always worked and played hard. So we are devastated as a family and we will always love you John Sua!!! Love to all the Sua family. The Kelly’s

I always look back with nostalgia at my memories of playing basketball against John in Jr. High. Even though we were on opposite teams, we had fun cracking jokes and guarding each other. I also will always remember that John taught me how to whistle with my hands during halftime of one of those games. He truly was a good person.

Great young man who was loved by everyone. His family has always been kind, gentle and loving to our community. His kind spirit took a break when he played football at SJHS as he was the most dominant defensive lineman of his era. I’m certain his dad Tom Sua ‘82 welcomed him into Heavan with open arms. Praying for your family. Cusack Family
