LYNNE BLAND BURKE
1938 - 2007



Lynne Bland Burke, 69, of Santa Maria, California, passed away June 14, 2007.
Lynne was raised in St. Louis, Missouri where she completed primary and secondary schools. She earned undergraduate and graduate degrees at Vanderbilt University, Washington University of St. Louis, and the University of Texas. She taught high school and college English for many years and also worked as coordinator of migrant education for the State of Missouri.
In 1986, Lynne moved to Santa Maria. She was employed at Marian Medical Center from 1986 until the present. She also worked as a part-time English instructor at Allan Hancock Community College for several years.
Lynne is survived by her husband, William C. Burke, of Santa Maria; daughter, Catherine Burke Harbison and husband Gary of Jefferson City, Missouri; Rebecca Burke Dillman and husband Christopher of San Diego, CA; son, William C. Burke, Jr. of Sacramento, CA; son, Terry Burke and wife Holly of Davis, CA; and six grandchildren, as well as a sister, Virginia Bland Fry of St. Louis, Mo., and, another sister, Catherine Bland Muren, of Little Rock, Arkansas; and many nieces and nephews.
The Burke family greatly appreciates the support of so many friends and professional caregivers through Lynne's struggle with cancer.
A family service and interment was held. Private arrangements are with Magner-Maloney Funeral Home and Crematory.
The family asks that, in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the Marina Medical Center Foundation, 1400 East Church Street, Santa Maria, CA 93454 or to the Allan Hancock College Foundation, Santa Maria, CA Sympathy notes and words of support may be expressed at www.magnermaloney.com.
