Michael Gutierrez Obituary
Age 56, Passed away suddenly June 29, 2006 in a hospital in Van Nuys, California.
Michael was born May 8, l950 in Santa Maria, CA. He was a life-long resident of this area having attended St. Mary's Elementary School and Graduating from Santa Maria High School in l969. While in high school he played on the basketball team for 4 years.
He then attended Allan Hancock College for two years and played on the Hancock Basketball team for 2 years. In l97l he entered the U.S. Army and served in Germany until discharge in l973. Following discharge he worked for Columbia Records for several years. In l978 Michael began a career at Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Plant.
His hobbies included Home improvements and gardening and always searching for the elusive Double Carnation. He was an avid sport fan, especially basketball and in particular the Lakers & UCLA. He was a longtime contributor and supporter of St. Jude Shrine in Baltimore, Maryland.
Michael is survived by his sons, John Michael and Shaun Gutierrez of Santa Maria, Three daughters, Sommer M. Gutierrez of Pomona, CA, Tiffany A. Gutierrez and Gabrielle C. Gutierrez of Santa Maria, the Mother of His Children, Corine Luna of Santa Maria, His mother, Mrs. Ines Gutierrez of Santa Maria, three brothers, Jesse Gutierrez of Santa Maria, Anthony Gutierrez of Bakersfield, CA and Enzo Gutierrez of Oceano, CA and Four sisters, Janie Jimenez & Maria Gutierrez of Santa Maria, Ines Galindo of Manteca, CA and Annabella Spehri of Frisco, Texas, His aunt, Mrs. Concha Gutierrez of Santa Maria . Three Grandchildren also survive, Rafael Michael Camacho, Elise Karime Preciado, and Paris Tiffany Thornton , also numerous nieces & nephews and Grand nieces & nephews. Michael is preceded in death by his father John M. Gutierrez who died March 22, 2002.
A Vigil service will held Thursday, July 6, 2006 at 6:00 pm in the Chapel of the Dudley-Hoffman Mortuary and a funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday, July 7, 2006 at ll:00 am at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church with Father Riz Carranza officiating. Interment will follow in the Santa Maria Cemetery with Military Honors.
In lieu of flowers memorials can be made in Michael's name to the St. Jude Shrine, 5l2 West Saratoga Street, Baltimore, Maryland 2l20l-l896.

Mike will always be my 2nd father. I spent more time at his house then I did at my own during childhood. I am devestated to hear of his passing. I hope that the family reads this, and understands that I did everything I could to make it to the funeral. He was a good man and taught me a lot. He will be missed by all. John-Michael, Shawn, Summer, Gabriel, and Tiff, I am so sorry.

I just found out about your loss, and I have to say, I was very shocked. I remember when we all worked at CBS, we had a good, fun time. Then as we grew older and had our children, they ended up being involved in sports together at West Side Little Leauge. Then later on I remember seeing him a lot at Orchard Supply Hardware when I worked there. He will truly be missed, he was a good friend. My thoughts and prayers go out to the family. I'm sorry i wasn't able to make the memorial, I found a day too late. I'm back to being Patricia Simpson, no longer a Dugger!
My heart feels heavy with the loss of a man who had many titles.

My thoughts and prayers go out to your family for your loss. As I didn't know Michael very well, John Michael and I attended St. Joes together and I remember how much he loved his family and how proud he was. I am so sorry for your loss.

Corina and kids; We are so sorry to hear about Michael. I worked with him when he started out as a young apprentice at the plant. I remember his great sense of humor. Please accept our sincere condolences.

Losing Mike was such a great loss to our neighborhood. He has made me feel welcome since the day i moved across the street from him. I'm already missing seeing him sitting on his porch relaxing, watching his grandkids or watering his grass.
