It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Richard Pico, who peacefully departed this life on March 20, 2025 at the young age of 95. Born on December 26, 1929 in Los Alamos CA. Richard was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and a cherished member of the community. He was known for his generosity, his unwavering kindness and his love of sports.
After graduating Santa Maria High School in 1949, he served his country by joining the US Army and served six years promoting to Sergeant where he fought in the Korean war. When he returned from the army, he worked in the oil fields in Drum Canyon, then moving onto Ventura and Bakersfield. After the oil fields Richard worked at Vandenberg Air Force Base as a painter. Then he started his 37-year career as a maintenance supervisor for Santa Maria Bonita District retiring at the age of 70. Richard was loved by all of his coworkers, teachers and even the students of the schools he worked at.
Richard loved hunting, fishing, watching westerns and his favorite sports teams the Dodgers, Lakers and the Rams. He was always willing to complete whatever home project his wife Lorraine dreamt up. Richard loved barbecuing tri-tip with family and making homemade vanilla ice cream.
Richard is survived by his four children Toni Pico, Tracey Paulson, Tricia Speer (Brian), Richard Pico (Juliann), and four grandchildren Alex Paulson, Rainey and Riley Speer and Olivia Ronzio Pico.
Richard is preceded in death by his wife Lorraine, his parents, Joseph and Joaquina Pico and his eight siblings.
Funeral services for Richard will be at St Anthony's Church in Los Alamos CA on Wednesday March 26, 2025. There will be a Viewing from 9:00-9:30 am, Rosary from 9:30-10:00, Mass at 10:00 am. After the mass there will be a graveside service at Los Alamos cemetery.
He will forever be remembered for his love of family, patience, generosity and his infectious smile.
In lieu of flowers the family request contributions to your favorite charity in memory of Richard.
