Travis Hurd Obituary

Travis Christopher Hurd

1990 - 2023

Travis Christopher Hurd, age 33, passed away July 29, 2023 after a lifelong battle with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. Despite progressive loss of physical ability and countless medical procedures throughout his bold life, Travis' spirit was undeterred by adversity, facing life with resilience and strength. He was born on July 13, 1990 in San Luis Obispo to Timothy and Kim Hurd. He graduated from Pioneer Valley High School in 2009 with honors, having participated throughout school in the FFA and local MDA events and cultivating his interest in drafting and classic cars.

Undaunted by physical limitations, Travis was full of life and loved learning. He pursued knowledge and experience in a wide array of curiosities, including history, science, geography, nature, plants, Anime, classic cars, the LA Chargers, and gaming. Patriotic to his core, Travis expressed a desire to join the U.S. Air Force to serve his country. He prized time with his family, and relished making memories on vacations, attending car shows and country music concerts, and celebrating holidays together. He was so pleased to welcome a sister-in-law in 2021 to carry forth his love and concern for his brother. Intelligent and quick witted, Travis could recall even obscure details and facts, noticing and appreciating details that would otherwise be overlooked. He was compassionate, opinionated, happy, thoughtful, loyal, and persevering. Travis's resolve and determination were an inspiration to all who knew him, and his absence will be notable. He was fiercely loved and will be profoundly missed; his memory will be treasured forever.

He is survived by parents, Timothy and Kim, brother Joshua and sister-in-law Holly, grandmother Carol Garrymore, grandmother and grandfather Madeline and Leon Permasse, Aunt/Uncle Lisa and Mark Unger, cousins Jack and Cameron Unger, Uncle Tom Ghareeb, Uncle/Aunt Chris and Christie Hurd, cousin Casey Hurd and numerous other Aunts, Uncles, cousins and friends.

Services will be held on Wednesday, August 9th at 11:00 AM at the Chapel of Dudley Hoffman Mortuary with the visitation beginning at 10:00 AM.

Travis was in my Panther Forum and one of my math classes. I will always have the memory of a game day at Edwards Community Center where we did an egg on a spoon race. We gave it to Travis and he put his chair in speed mode! Everyone cheered----and we won! Prayers of support, strength, and love going out to you all!

Wishing I was there to support my family. My love to all and just knowing I was a small part of my nephews life made me a better person. Travis was the bravest person I knew and God knows I wish we were closer but the fact remains we were family and he knows how loved he was.
