Howard Jones Obituary

Howard C. Jones CLIFTON PARK - Howard C. Jones, 93, of Arnold Drive, beloved husband of over 67 years of the late Thelma L. Jones, peacefully entered into eternal life on Saturday, March 5, 2016 at St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany. Born in Alberta, Canada, he was the son of the late John and Blanche Coons Jones and was a graduate of Lansingburgh High School and Kansas University where he earned his Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering. Mr. Jones served in the U.S. Navy during World War II on the U.S.S. Columbia in the Atlantic Theatre and was honorably discharged in 1946. Soon after leaving the Navy he taught mathematics courses as an instructor at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Mr. Jones’ career as a Civil Engineer began in Utica with the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation and after over 40 years he retired from their office in Colonie where he was Section Chief of the Civil Engineering Department. Howard loved camping, hiking, cats, birds and all wildlife, was a huge fan of the New York Yankees, loved serenading his family while playing his harmonica at home, around camp fires and family gatherings, cherished car rides in the Adirondacks, was a member of the Friends of Saratoga Battlefield where he enjoyed rides and walks - especially during the fall. Howard and Thelma took several cross country trips as well as trips to the West Coast, Alberta, Canada and enjoyed moose watching in Maine where they frequently rented a cabin during the early fall. He was a member of Shenendehowa United Methodist Church since 1967. Devoted husband of over 67 years of Thelma L. Koelmel Jones who died on September 19, 2015, devoted father of Howard (Debbie) Jones of Buffalo, NY, Ronald (JoAnn) Jones of Mechanicville, Thomas (Mary Ann) Jones of Voorheesville, Robert (Molly) Jones, Esq. of Brunswick, Nancy Marr (Bruce Hotaling) of Castleton, Richard (Thea) Jones of Mechanicville and the late Vicki Jones, brother of the late John, Maynard, Arthur and Harry Jones, brother-in-law of Audrey Jones of Bennington ,VT and Marion Jones of Esperance, also survived by 18 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be held on Friday morning at 11:00 a.m. at the Gordon C. Emerick Funeral Home, 1550 RT-9 in Clifton Park. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Interment with military honors will be held in Elmwood Hill Cemetery, Troy. The Jones family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the staff at St. Peter’s Hospital for their wonderful and loving care that was provided to Howard and his family. In lieu of flowers, the family desires that memorial contributions be made to Friends of Saratoga Battlefield, 648 Route 32, Stillwater, NY 12170, in memory of Howard C. Jones.
