Jerrie Lee Rock Schindel, age 79, of Sterling, died Saturday, August 16, 2025 at CGH Medical Center.
Jerrie was born January 11, 1946 in Oregon, IL, the daughter of LaVern and Eleanor (Kested) Rock. She attended Tampico Elementary Grade School and graduated from Tampico High School, Class of 1964. Jerrie was employed at Tampico National Bank from 1964-1968. She drove for R. C. Smith Transportation in Tampico for 4 ½ years, had a bus route from 1975-1994, and also worked for Products Unlimited in Prophetstown from 1994-2002.
In 1959, she joined the First United Methodist Church in Tampico where she was a Sunday School teacher, President of the Methodist Youth Fellowship (MYF) former member and President Rebecca Circle, President and Vice President UMW local unit, former Vice President and Secretary of Program Resource of DeKalb District UMW (8years) former SPR, Northern Illinois Conference UMW (4years), now DeKalb District member of United Methodist Women, having served 3 years of nominating committee, Lifetime member of Tampico Area Historical Society, former Secretary and member of Tampico Area Preservation Advisory Committee. Founder, organizer and co-ordinator of the Tampico Area Food Pantry October 1989 – December 2014. 25 years Site Caption for the United Way of Whiteside County, free "Let's Feed Our Children" 2007 – present.
She married Clarence E. Schindel on November 16, 1968 at Rock Falls UMC. Divorced September 1991. Survivors include, Kyle (Stepheny Cox) Schindel, Barry (Shelley Zinke)Schindel, Lance (Emily) Schindel; grandchildren, Chaz (Kandice), Dalton (Karra), Mercedes, Colton, Morgan (Colin), Shyanne, and Shelby.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Edith Jo.
A gathering of family and friends will be held on Sunday, August 24, 2025 from 1:00 – 2:00 PM at the Garland Funeral Home in Tampico. The memorial service will follow at 2:00 PM at the funeral home with Pastor Isaac Newman officiating.
