Kathryn M. Heffelfinger, 81, of Sterling died unexpectedly Thursday, April 24, 2025, at her home.
She was born on August 27, 1943, in Dixon, the daughter of John H. and Evelyn D. (Smith) Egan and was a 1961 graduate of Newman Central Catholic School. She married Lynn R. Heffelfinger on September 11, 1965, in Sterling. Kathryn was employed at CGH Medical Center in Sterling as a medical transcriptionist and later retired as an executive administrative assistant. She was a faithful member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Survivors include her husband, Lynn; daughter Susan Heffelfinger of Dixon; son Brian (Katie) Heffelfinger of Sleepy Hollow, IL; six grandchildren: Julia, Jack, Sara and Daniel Heffelfinger; Jacob and Dylan Nag; sisters: Marilyn (Mike) Frazier of Cleveland, OH and Jacqueline (Scott) McConnell of Beloit, WI; brother Richard Egan of Toledo, OH; and sister in law Julie Heffelfinger of Bloomington, IL.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
A gathering of friends and family will take place on Monday April 28, 2025, from 9:00 AM – 10:45 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Sterling. Celebration of the Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 AM in the church with the Reverend Thomas Doyle officiating. Burial will conclude at Calvary Cemetery, Sterling.
A memorial will be established.

I am so,so sorry to hear of Kathryn(s) (Kates) passing!
I only recently came to know her during get togethers with mutual friends for card games and refreshments to enjoy while playing cards and enjoying everyone's company. She was a very gracious hostess. I have known Lynn since high school as we were both on football teams and wrestling teams together. I was out of town when I heard of her passing and was stunned to say the least! She is sorely missed by Lynn and their family, friends and co-workers at CGH.

Kathy was truly one of the kindest and most thoughtful people I've ever had the pleasure of knowing. We will always remember the Halloweens spent at the Heffelfinger's house when our son was young. Such good times! My condolences to all friends and family. She will be missed tremendously.

My condolences to Kathy's family. I went to high school with Kathy and saw her occasionally at class reunions. I haven't seen Kathy in years but I will always remember her beautiful smile. I discovered another connection to Kathy when I worked with Katie many years ago also.

My heart is saddened to hear of Kathy's passing. I just learned about this tragic loss a few mins ago. I'm sorry I wasn't able to make it to the visitation. Kathy was a wonderful person who will be greatly missed. She made me feel special and made the very bestest thumb print cookies I've ever had. She loved her family more than any thing in the whole world. Again my sincere condolences

I wish to extend my deepest sympathy on the passing of your wife, mother and grandmother, Kathy. she was such a dear, kind person. I will never forget her beautiful, friendly smile. She was always so inviting and lovely to be with. i was very blessed God placed her on my pathway of life and got to know her over the years of get togethers at Brain and Katie's home. She will be greatly missed by all of us who love and knew her. Rest in peace my friend.
