My sympathies go out to Joe Conner's family. I sing in the deanery choir and we will all miss his beautiful voice. I sang at the wake, and when Deacon Smith began singing a song that Joe had requested, the sun broke through the clouds and shone through the windows behind us in the choir loft. All of a sudden, everything around us was bathed in golden light. I know that he was with us then, and I know he will always remain with you, especially.

We won't be able to travel in time for the arrangements Wednesday, but will be with all of you in spirit. I will always remember Uncle Joe as a kind and gentle-spoken man, a steady hand in times of trouble, and in quieter times a gratious and generous champion of southern good manners, and good humor.
