Walter & Curtie~

Reading about your noble father brought back strong memories from the pain of losing my own. When my dad was so sick, I remember my pleadings, attempting to convince God that fathers are supposed to be immortal. Now I know ~ they are!

Your family will surely take comfort and find rest in knowing that JC Lewis made a difference in profound ways ~ and most special, his benevolence, stewardship and generosity were, for him, merely all in a day's work and nothing out of the ordinary.

You & all yours have an incredible legacy, along with an inheritance of integrity and character that lives on in each of you. Count on my prayers thru this season ahead, especially for your mom. Altho grieving is hard work, as each of you embrace it, you'll find comfort from the Holy Spirit that will be transforming. With Keen Care,

susan

On behalf of the licensed blind vendor, Harvey Hodnett and the Georgia Department of Labor's Business Enterprise Program, our most heartfelt sympathy goes out to the family of Mr. Ford. Dear Walter and family,

Walter, the first time that I remember meeting your dad was when my dad Frank Waters worked on your fathers AC system some thirty years ago. your father knew that I loved to fish and gave me one of his own fishing rods. My dad had the upmost respect for your dad, and he told me how fine of a man he was. Years later I found that also to be true with you when we started doing business together. God gave you somthing more precious than gold or money, he gave you a father with character, dignity, love, and affection. Savannah is a better place because of your father, and as long as Savannan, Ga is around, your father will always be remembered.

Dear Walter and Family,

I knew your father for a long time. I remember caddying for him at the Savannah Golf Club. He always had a very good short game. And he would play that "controlled fade" shot. He always called me Robbie, after my father.

Words cannot adaquately express the feelings of loss for such a wonderful person as your father. But I don't need to tell you that. Instead I hope and pray that your family will be comforted with these words:

Your father is in Heaven right now with Jesus. And we who believe will see him again. May the grace of our Lord, Jesus Christ, be with you, and your family always.

Our heartfelt sympathy goes out to the J. C. Lewis family in the loss of your husband and father. My earliest recollection of the generosity of your family to ours goes back to 1947 when my father died. At the time, my sister Shirley was staying with Curtis' mother while attending Armstrong College. Curtis and Nancy, accompanied by his mother and my sister Shirley traveled by auto to Amelia Island where they both comforted our family and greatly assisted my mother with burial arrangements for my father. I last saw Curtis in June 2001 when I visited him at his office. During our chat I told Curtis that since my retirement I had developed an interest in nature and ecology and was working on an advanced degree in biology. Afterwards Curtis made sure that I was introduced to his son Walter who shared similar interests in nature.

Dear Nancy and family,

Growing up as a child in Savannah's First Baptist Church, my Dad would always point out Curtis as a Christian businessman. As a father, Deacon, businessman and politician, Curtis was a mentor - always stopping to inquire as to my work and wishing me the best. As now I lead a national charity in child protection, the guidance, spirit, and love of mankind that Curtis embodied ever guides my steps. While ever to be missed, I can only say Godspeed to one of God's most faithful stewards.

i was deeply saddened to read of curtis'death this morning and offer sincere condolences to nancy, and his entire family. you are all in my prayers at this most difficult time.although i have been away from savannah for some 34 years, i have many fond memories of my youth and early adulthood at tybee and in savannah. among those are most certainly remembrances of my serving as a tybee city councilman during curtis' term as mayor of savannah. i got to know him quite well in those years and had the utmost regard for his integrity and compassion for those less fortunate among our community. he was a "giant" with a quiet, humble manner which was evident to all who passed his way. he will be sorely missed by many friends, and a loving family. may he rest in peace. jack

My profound condolences to the Lewis family on the loss of their beloved husband and father. I recall his graciousness to me when I arrived in Savannah in 1973 as the new bishop of the Diocese of Savannah; his friendship over the years has been a precious treasure. May he rest in peace and the may the Lord grant his family every consolation in their moment of grief.
