Moses West Obituary

Mr. Moses West - SAVANNAH - Mr. Moses West, 78, departed life on Tuesday, January 15 at Savannah Rehabilitation Center. Moses was born October 1, 1929 to the late Richard and Lucille Scott West of Bellinger Hill, South Carolina. Five of his siblings, including his twin brother, preceded him in death. Moses attended the public school system in Jasper County and Chatham County. He served his country for two terms during the Korean Conflict. During which he received several medals and awards including; Korean Service Medal with a bronze service star, United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation, and the Good Conduct Medal. He was employed and retired from Kaiser Agriculture Company (Southern Nitrogen). Moses was a dedicated and lifetime member at American Legion Post 500 for many years where he served in many capacities including vice-commander, manager, treasurer, and a member of the Veteran of Foreign Wars (VFW). He was a faithful member of Second St. John Baptist Church for over forty years, during which he loyally served on the usher board until he was called home. He leaves to cherish his memory; Ruth West, Frances West Clay Tukes, Herman West, Mozella West Raines, Gloria West Frazier, Steve West, Lisa West Horace, 12 grandchildren, 12 Great-Grandchildren, one brother, Benjamin West, Sr., one sister Maggie West Robinson, and a host of other relatives and friends. Family Hour will be held on Friday January 18, 2008 from 5:00-6:30 p.m., at Second St. John Baptist Church 1323 Golden Street, with Pastor Michael Lewis. Home Going celebration will be held on Saturday, January 19, 2008 at 1:00 p.m., at Lewis Pentecostal Temple, Hwy 170-A, South O Katie Hwy, Levy, South Carolina. Interment: Cummingsville Cemetery Levy, South Carolina. Memorial may be made to the American Heart & Strokes Association.
