M. Drasher-McGirr Obituary

July 17, 2011

M. Ann Drasher-McGirr, 82, of Brookside Court, Orwigsburg, died Sunday while in the company of her loving family members at her residence.

Born in Mill City, she was a daughter of the late Walter and Anna Fox Smith.

She was a 1946 graduate of Moosic High School

She was a very active member of St. John's United Church of Christ, Owigsburg, for more than 50 years.

After graduating from high school, Ann married her first love, Bill Drasher, and eventually moved to Orwigsburg in 1958. She was a loving wife and mother, raising three sons through the turbulent 60s and 70s. She never missed one of her sons' sporting events and a day didn't go by that she wasn't checking to make sure homework was done and lunch bags were packed. Ann always had a smile and her positive attitude was contagious. As her sons grew older, she worked at Blue Mountain High School as the principal's administrative assistant and prior to that as a nursing assistant.

Ann loved to play cards and met almost weekly as a member of Orwigsburg Bridge Club since 1960.

Married for 52 years to a game protector, Ann was adventurous and could fish and hunt with the best of them. She bagged many whitetails and even a black bear. Ann was fortunate enough to find true love twice. After Bill died, she married Robert McGirr. They enjoyed 10 loving years together and traveled the world. Ann was a very active golfer and loved gardening, but she really enjoyed when she and Bob traveled in Europe. When not on the back nine at Schuylkill Country Club, Ann and Bob were active volunteers for Schuylkill Women in Crisis. She was always thinking of others, always smiling. Ann was taken by pancreatic cancer and died peacefully at home with family members at her side. She was loved by all who knew her and will be greatly missed.

In addition to her first husband, she was preceded in death by four sisters, Lois, Doris, Marion and Jessie.

Surviving are her husband, Robert, Orwigsburg; sons, Billy E., husband of Roberta Drasher, Selinsgrove, Donald W., husband of Janis Drasher, Carlisle, Dane A. Drasher, husband of Lucinda, Dover, N.H.; grandsons, Troy A. Drasher, husband of Samanatha, Abilene, Texas, Sean Drasher, husband of Tammy, Carlisle, Travis Drasher, Carlisle, Ryan Drasher, Dover, N.H. and Colby Drasher, Boston, Mass.; a granddaughter, Kristi Drasher, Selinsgrove; great-grandchildren, Mason and Nick Tindle, Regan Ann, Nathanial and Katrina Drasher.

Family and friends are invited to call from 10:15 a.m. Friday until the time of services at 11 a.m. at Hamilton Funeral Home Inc., Orwigsburg. A remembrance of Ann's life service will be held following the visitation at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Barbara Kershner officiating. For those caring to, Ann's wishes were that contributions in her name be sent to St. John's United Church of Christ, 236 E. Market St., Orwigsburg, PA 17961.
