Sheldon Lee Keefer, 86, of Auburn, formerly of Minersville, passed away on Thursday at Lebanon VA Medical Center.
Born on August 18, 1937, in Catawissa, he was a son of the late Marvin and Louise (née Ash) Keefer. He was a graduate of Pottsville and was a Navy veteran. He served as a mail carrier with the Minersville Post Office, retiring after 23 years of service.
He resided in several Florida locations for over 20 years, most recently in Lake Como, until returning to Schuylkill County. He was a cast member at Walt Disney World, proudly serving as an escort for Disney princesses.
He was an accomplished billiard player and avid bowler, playing in local and regional leagues. He also enjoyed traveling in his recreational vehicle throughout his retirement years.
While in Florida, he worshipped at Lake Como Community of Hope.
He was preceded in death by his longtime companion, Dorothy Cappel, in 2004; a brother, David Keefer; a sister, Carol Sterner.
Sheldon is survived by two children, Susan Keefer, Minersville, and Scott Keefer (companion, Tracy), Temple; Dorothy's three children, Mary Herb (spouse, Mark), Auburn, with whom he resided, Jodi Lang, Minersville, and Dale Cappel (spouse, Cindy), Orwigsburg; five grandchildren, Timothy Newton, Angela Keller, Crystal Bixler, Ryan Cappel and Benjamin Cappel; four great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his remaining brother, Robert Keefer, Hellertown; nieces and nephews.
The family will accept visitors at Dutcavich Funeral Home, 200 Sunbury St., Minersville, on Tuesday, November 21 from 11 A.M. until services at noon. Interment with military honors will be in Schuylkill Memorial Park. The family appreciates donations in Sheldon's memory to Lake Como Community of Hope, 126 Highland Ave., Lake Como, FL 32157. Just found out about sheldon´s passing. Knew him at school in Pottsville. I have a picture of him on back of newspaper clipping. He was a good person. Glad to have known him. J . Kachur
