Velma Louise (Urban) Sippie, of Frackville, died Thursday, Dec. 3, 2020, at The Gardens at York Terrace, Pottsville.
Born April 18, 1938, in Higginsville, Lafayette County, Mo., she was a daughter of the late Edwin H. and Bernita A. (Pryor) Urban.
She attended Chihuahua School, RR1 near Higginsville, before moving to Warrensburg, Mo., to attend College High School on the campus of Central Missouri State University, now known as University of Central Missouri, where she was a member of National Honor Society. She attended Central Missouri before completing her degree work in library science through State Library of Pennsylvania in 1973. She worked as assistant librarian at Frackville Free Public Library from 1968 to 1973 before being promoted to library director, serving from 1973 until her retirement in 2001. Following the death of her husband, she worked as a medical librarian at the former Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center from 1990 until her full retirement in 2003.
She and her husband met while he was stationed at Whiteman Air Force Base near Warrensburg, Mo. They were married June 1, 1956, at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, Warrensburg. To this union, five children were born who survive her, son, David Sippie and his wife, Rhonda, of Overland, Mo.; daughter, Teri Krolick, of Gordon; daughter, Angela Jordan and her husband, Rob, of Gordon; son, Steve Sippie and his fiancee, Brenda, of Frackville; Jason Sippie, of Frackville; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild, of whom she was very proud, Jonathan Krolick and his fiancee, Amanda Morgan, of Ashland, Andrew Sippie, of Overland, Joshua Sippie and his wife, Miranda, of New York, Justin Jordan and his wife, Brit, of Mountain Top, Darrell Sippie, of Mahanoy City, Dylan Sippie, of Frackville; great-grandchild, Joy Isabel Jordan.
One of the proudest accomplishments of her life was raising her children to value the important things in life and to maintain the closeness of the entire family; sharing vacation adventures together with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchild.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 9, at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Parish, St. Ann Church, 49 N. Line St., Frackville, PA 17931. The Rev. Brian Miller will officiate. Friends may call from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to St. Joseph the Worker Memorial Fund, 7 S. Broad Mountain Ave., Frackville, PA 17931. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Frackville. Nice-Hart Funeral Home Inc., Frackville, is in charge of arrangements.
