Julie Bowers Obituary

Stanwood - Julie Anne Bowers, 59, of Stanwood Washington, passed away peacefully on June 14, 2024 after a short hospital stay.

Julie was born on October 5, 1964 to John and Shirley Bowers in Portland, Oregon. During her early years, her family lived in Duluth Minnesota and Billings Montana before moving to Stanwood Washington. After Julie graduated from Stanwood High School in 1983, she went on to study Early Childhood special education at Western Washington University where she graduated with a degree in Pre-school Special Education. Julie continued her education receiving her masters in Early Childhood Special Education through Lesley College in Boston Massachusetts. Julie spent her 30 year teaching career in Everett Washington, touching hundreds of preschoolers with her compassion and patience. She was always a calming presence in each student's life, giving them structure within a positive learning environment. Her influence in their lives and those of each family is immeasurable. Julie retired from teaching in 2023 after a career filled with many fond memories, great adventures, and wonderful friendships.

Volunteerism was a part of Julie's being. Shortly after moving to Stanwood, she became involved in the Stanwood Camino Community Fair, helping in the Adult Baking area with Mom, as well as serving on the Fair Board for many years. The American Cancer Society was also an organization close to Julie's heart. She volunteered for many years in the capacity of Survivorship Committee Co-Chair for Relay and participated in Making Stride

Against Breast Cancer. She had such a great passion for service of and caring for cancer patients and their families. Being a two time cancer survivor herself, she could relate to each participant and was a ray of hope that they too could survive this terrible disease. The American Diabetes Association, the Arthritis Foundation and the Country Living Expo were also recipients of her generosity.

Julie was the family photographer, documenting all events and travels, no matter how small. Taking Atlas and Seven on adventures and creating memories for them through scrapbooks was a top priority. Her photography talent also came into play when she traveled as is evident in the many photos around the house. To say she loved going to Disneyland would be an understatement as it really was her happy place. I am sure Mickey shed a tear when she passed. Visiting relatives was also very important to her, making sure connections were not broken.

Julie was preceded in death by her parents, John and Shirley Bowers. She is survived by her sister, Debbie, her brother, John and his wife Lori, her niece, Jessica and her husband Rob, great niece Seven, great nephew Atlas, many cousins, friends and colleagues.

A celebration of Julie's life will be on June 22, 2024 at the Stanwood United Methodist Church at 2:00 PM. In Lieu of flowers her family requests donations to the Snohomish County Relay For Life or the Stanwood Camano Community Fair.

We are so sorry to hear about Julie’s passing. We feel blessed that she and Deb visited us in Texas and I’ve always admired how they kept in touch with extended family, near and far. Julie had an incredible gift for connecting with children and my kids experienced that during the visits we had with her over the years. Praying for peace for the family as you grieve your loss.

We are heartbroken to hear about Julie's passing. My son is 19 now and had "Miss Julie" for two years. She always said my son would be a negotiator or lawyer lol. I recall the "chicken nugget" story. They had nuggets for lunch. My son took a taste and said, "These aren't McDonald's!" Julie went to the trouble of getting a McDonald's nugget box and served the kids out of that. So many funny stories and fun times. You'll be so missed, Julie. I know Debbie will miss all y'alls trips, races, and the fair...the Christmas letter will certainly be missed. Julie was such a blessing to students and parents and her many friends. She always made end of year booklets with all your child's pictures taken during the year. Just a really dedicated teacher that helped me understand my child much better. You are loved and will be sorely missed Julie. We aren't able to be at your Celebration of Life. We're 3,000 miles away. If we could, we would be. My heart and thoughts will be there though. You were so loved.

Julie was the first and only student teacher I have ever had. I wasn't so sure about having a student teacher, but it was definitely God that brought us together. Julie became a close friend. My children (now adults) refer to her as Aunt Julie. Julie was always thoughtful, cheerful and so generous. I am shocked by her sudden passing. Julie has a special place in my heart and I know I will see her again. Debbie and John, I am so sorry for your loss. Keeping your family in my thoughts and prayers.

So sad and shocked my dear friend I have many fond memories growing up with you, your bday parties, working in spinach fields, your love of Andy Gibb and all the Tiger Beat magazines you would bring to school in middle school I am so sorry for especially your sister Debbie as I rarely ever saw you without her and I know what it's like to lose a sibling I am so mad at myself for not getting you over to relax and enjoy my flowers and plants like we talked about doing...I will try to do better about not putting things off in your honor I am so sad for those of us left behind, but hoping you're completely at peace and with loved ones my friend

I knew Julie her whole life as we are cousins. She was so wonderful, so caring and loving. I don't think she ever had a bad word to say about anyone. She and Deb were here in Texas a while back to visit me and my daughter and her family and my two grandkids just loved both of them. My heart is just broken for Deb and John and the rest of the family she will be truly missed. God has a new wonderful angel.
