Peter L. "Roy" McCall, Jr., 91, of Society Hill, SC, passed away on March 4, 2022, after a brief period of illness. He was born October 27, 1930, the older twin son of Belle Forman Wolfe and P.L. McCall, Sr. A devoted husband, Roy was married 52 years to the late Margaret Bryant McCall. Roy attended the local schools and graduated from Hartsville High School in 1949. As a member of the "Fabulous 49ers", Roy's class was the first to complete twelve grades. He was also a member of the National Honor Society, Boys' Glee Club, HHS Concert Band, and HHS Marching Band.
Mr. McCall graduated from Clemson A&M College in 1953 with honors, receiving a B.S. degree in Agronomy. He was a member of the Pershing Rifle Drill Platoon and won a Sears Roebuck Scholarship his sophomore year. He was a member of Alpha Zeta Agricultural and Phi Kappa Phi fraternities, as well as the Agronomy Club. Roy was listed in the Who's Who in American Colleges and Universities (1953). Roy was also Commander, Company C-4, during his senior year at Clemson.
Serving in the United States Army Infantry from 1954-1956, Mr. McCall attended Officer's Training at Fort Benning, GA. He served as a 2nd lieutenant providing basic training for recruits at Fort Gordon, GA and served as a member of the 506th Regimental Faculty (1st Lieutenant) at Fort Jackson, SC.
An active participant in numerous local, county, and state agricultural organizations, Mr. McCall served as President of the Darlington County Agricultural Society, Past President of the Darlington Young Farmers Association, President and Director of the Darlington County Farm Bureau, and Chairman of the South Carolina and Darlington County Agricultural Stabilization Conservation Committees. In 1987, he was elected Director of Cotton Incorporated, a cotton farmers' research and promotion company. Mr. McCall was a founding member of the South Carolina Cotton Board and served on the South Carolina Farm Bureau Cotton Advisory and American Farm Bureau Federation Cotton Advisory Committees. He was also a founding director of the Darlington County Historical Commission.
Roy was a proud and devoted IPTAY member for 69 glorious years. Roy has generously supported both Clemson and Coker Colleges through various endowments, gifts, and scholarship funds. Roy received the Algernon Sydney Sullivan Award from Coker College in 2013 for excellence in character and service to humanity. He became a member of Clemson Legacy in 2009.
Roy was a life-long member of West Hartsville Baptist Church, serving as a deacon, intermediate department superintendent, and choir member. He has faithfully attended and supported Welsh Neck Baptist Church in Society Hill in recent years. The McCall family has a long legacy of philanthropy and continues to support the Baptist Foundation and numerous ministries and organizations.
Mr. McCall was preceded in death by his parents, his twin brother, William Reaves McCall, special cousin Elmer Medlin, and his loving wife of 52 years, Margaret Bryant McCall.
He is survived by very special friends, Courtney and Carolyn Stokes, their children and grandchildren, the Medlin Family, Clint Milligan, and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

A Funeral Service was held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, March 7, 2022, at West Hartsville Baptist Church. The Rev. Darryl Davids officiated with burial in Magnolia Cemetery. The Directors of Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home and Crematory cared for the family.
