Richard Suggs Obituary

Richard Keith Suggs

November 15, 1938 - April 4, 2025

Richard Keith Suggs, 86, of Holland, went to be with the Lord on April 4, 2025. Richard was born on November 15, 1938, to the late James Suggs and Carolyn Cole in Florence, South Carolina.

Richard proudly served in the Navy, beginning January 1957 through January 1961; and again, from July 1964 through August 1966. He loved telling stories about his time of service and especially loved the history of WWII, he enjoyed going to museums and viewing artifacts of the war. The second time he was in the Navy he was so proud to be a photojournalist. Richard loved to feed people; it was so important to him to see everyone fed. He even made sure that the wild animals were fed around his home. As a teenager, Richard was called the "French fry king" because he would make french fries for his sisters and cousins, he also helped his stepdad with the produce truck. Richard met Dale while living across the road from each other in South Carolina, he brought her a newspaper when the snow was too bad to get out. They formally met at the conjoined mailboxes a little while later being introduced by a friend. They were married on November 28, 1975. Richard retired in 1996 from ESAB as a maintenance mechanic, after that he briefly worked in a cafeteria at an elementary school before moving to Arkansas in 2011. Richard mostly loved spending time with his grandchildren in his later years, especially taking them to Dairy Queen for ice cream and he would wait patiently while they shopped at Pop Shelf.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepdad, William Cole; his beloved uncle, Joe Griffin; and many other aunts and uncles.

Richard is survived by his wife, Dale; his son, Sam (Felisha); grandchildren, Caelynn, Elam, and Adaline; siblings, Jim (Doris) Suggs, Carol Cole, and Barbara (David) Streett; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A service will be held in his honor on Tuesday, April 15th at Liberty Church of the Nazarene at 10:00 a.m., and a visitation on Monday, April 14th at Wilcox Family Funeral Home from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

So very sorry to learn of cousin Dickie passing. I didn't realize how much he looked like uncle Joe. In my thoughts and prayers.
