Hans Bodvarsson Obituary

Hans Peter Bodvarsson

St. Cloud - Hans Peter Bodvarsson, 18, of St. Cloud, died on October 24, 2020 as result of injuries sustained from a tragic fall. He was born on April 14, 2002 in Lincoln, Nebraska, the son of Örn and Mary (Meldahl) Bodvarsson, and the younger brother of Gunnar Bodvarsson. At the time of his passing, Hans was a Freshman attending the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), intending to study cognitive science.

Hans spent the majority of his youth in St. Cloud, Minnesota where he enjoyed playing basketball, baseball, football, and golf along with learning how to play the piano. The family moved to Folsom, California in 2015, where Hans completed 8th and 9th grades, after which they returned to St. Cloud. At the high school level Hans competed on the Golf, Math, and Knowledge Bowl Teams. He graduated from Tech High School in May of 2020. During the past few summers, Hans worked at the St. Cloud Country Club. He was enormously excited to be accepted to UCLA - his dream school - and move back to California to start the next chapter of his life.

While his life was cut short far too early, Hans lived his life to the fullest. By his many, many friends around the nation, Hans was known for being kind, caring, charismatic, and having a wonderful sense of humor. By his family, Hans will always be remembered for being an amazing kid and young man and for whom there will always be great love and pride.

Hans was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Gunnar and Tove Bodvarsson, his maternal grandparents, John and Ann Meldahl, and his uncle, Per Winter. He is survived by his parents, Örn and Mary Bodvarsson, his older brother, Gunnar Bodvarsson, and his cat, Tigger. Hans also leaves behind many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends in St. Cloud, Folsom, Los Angeles, and around the World.

Hans was a bright light to all who knew him. He had a passion for questioning and challenging those around him. He was friends with so many different people and could have a great conversation with anyone. Hans had an amazing ability to build community around him wherever he went. The family would like to honor his legacy and has established scholarships in his honor and memory at UCLA in Los Angeles (https://giving.ucla.edu/BodvarssonMemorialScholarshipFund) and St. Cloud Technical High School in St. Cloud, Minnesota (https://leaf742.org/what-we-do/hans-bodvarsson-scholarship-fund/ ). In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to either scholarship in Hans' honor. A Service to honor Hans' life will be made available for viewing on Saturday, December 5th at 1pm.

Looking to reach Mary Bodvarsson and get a new address for the Stanley Area Historical Socety. Her newsletter returned with a label "Unable to Forward." If possible, Mary call 1-715-644-5880 with a new address to send the newsletter to. Sorry for this desperate unorthodox attempt to reach you but other means have failed.

Hans was an amazing Scandinavian of Icelandic and Norwegian heritage.
He was a member of the Icelandic Community of Minnesota. Icelanders in Minnesota send their Condolences and their prayers with hopes of healing. Hans will be remembered as a member of our community. Blessings to the Family be they near or far!
As Icelanders say,
Bless, bless, Minnesota's Icelanders

I knew Hans through his work at the St. Cloud Country Club. He was a great kid - hard working, respectful and kind. I’m very sorry for your great loss.
