David Broderick Obituary

MANCHESTER — David L. Broderick Sr., of Manchester, died Thursday, Feb. 7, 2008, at Concord Hospital, after a short illness.

He was born in Manchester on Feb. 17, 1951, the son of Francis J. and Mary (McCaugney) Broderick. He was educated in the local school system and was a 1969 graduate of Bishop Bradley High School. He received his bachelor's degree from The College of The Holy Cross in 1973 and earned his J.D. from Suffolk University Law School, Class of 1977.

Members of his family include his wife of 30 years, Ruth A. (Kayler) Broderick of Manchester; one son, David L. Broderick Jr. of San Diego, Calif. and Manchester; two daughters, Kathleen Broderick of Manchester and Patty Broderick of Manchester; one brother and sister-in-law, Dr. Francis J. and Mary Broderick of Hampton; brothers-in-law, Hillsborough County Superior Court Justice James Barry of Manchester and Robert R. Kayler of Hopkinton; and many nephews, nieces and cousins. He was predeceased by his sister, Mary Ann Barry, five years ago.

WE REMEMBER: Prior to his illness, he had been an assistant U.S. attorney for many years. Previously, David had been an attorney with Malloy & Sullivan, specializing in media law. A former Democratic activist, he was former chairman of the Hillsborough County Democratic Party in the 1980s and was sought out for advice by many candidates. He was a chairman and commissioner of the Manchester Transit Authority and was parish council president for the former Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church.

An avid reader, David was also a fan of the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots. He most enjoyed the time he spent at the beach with his family and friends.

SERVICES: Calling hours will be from 2 to 5 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. on Monday at Lambert Funeral Home & Crematory, 1799 Elm St., corner of North Street, Manchester. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Tuesday in St. Catherine Church, corner of Webster and Hemlock Streets, with Monsignor John E. Quinn officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Bedford. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. I will never forget Dave and How Blessed We Were with His Presence at the U. S. Attorney's Office!
