Marc Rothstein Obituary

NORTH BERWICK, Maine - Marc Rothstein, 44, of North Berwick, was taken away all too soon on Friday, April 30, 2010.

Born in Cleveland, Ohio, Marc was the youngest child of Sarah Heller and Nathan Rothstein.

Marc lived life to its fullest, and most who spent time with him knew that things were about to get lively whenever he stepped into the room.

He was a man of the world and a man of the heart. His business brought him to the four corners of the earth. He must have touched his toes in the sand of thousands of different beaches. But no matter how far away he was, he carried his love for his family and friends wherever he went.

Marc's parents, Sarah and Nathan, were a great source of love, knowledge and strength for him. And his sisters, Bibi and Martine, were always close to him and always there when he needed them.

His two longhaired, gorgeous boys were his life. The joy he felt whenever he was with them was evident to all who were around.

Marc met his wife, Juli Rothstein, on a business trip at Club Med in the Dominican Republic. He swept her off her feet and loved her fiercely until their last minutes together.

He is survived by his loving wife, Juli; his two beautiful sons, Caleb, 8, and Aden, 5; his mother and stepfather (deceased) Herbert and Sarah Heller; his father and stepmother, Nathan and Paula Rothstein; his mother-in-law, Debbie Nessett; his nana-in-law, Delores Bock; his sister, Beatrice Rothstein; his sister and brother-in-law, Martine and Brian Marcus, and their two lovely daughters, Rachel and Zoe; his stepsister and her husband, Erica and Rob Newman, and their two sweet girls, Samantha and Nicole; his stepbrother and his wife, Richard and Liza Heller, and their two daughters, Aerin and Elise; his three brothers in life, Greg Peterson, Eric Wong and Jay Higdon; his soul sister, Sabine Vedie; and many, many more friends and family.

In thinking of the man that Marc was, and who he will remain in our hearts, we offer this quote by Alexander Supertramp, "The very basic core of a man's living spirit is his passion for adventure. The joy of life comes from our encounters with new experiences, and hence there is no greater joy than to have an endlessly changing horizon, for each day to have a new and different sun."

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 5, at Temple Israel in Portsmouth, with burial to follow. Shiva will be held following the burial at 4 p.m. at the home of Marc and Juli Rothstein, 447 Lebanon Road, North Berwick. In lieu of flowers, donations in Marc's memory may be made to the Hebrew School at Temple Israel, Portsmouth. For online condolences, visit www.jvwoodfuneralhome.com.

Dear Julie & Sara,

From the moment Marc walked in our office to purchase your home till the day we closed I could tell how very much having a home for all of you was to Marc. It was a pleasure and an honor to work with him and you his family. The love shone through always. His job was fascinating to me, to think I met a real live designer who was so excited about his new endeavors was inspiring. I hoped someday to sport a design of his myself. Your loan was one of my favorites ever to work on and Mike and I have thought of Marc often and wondered how he was doing. I am so sorry to hear of his passing. I know how much you have been through in this last year and you are in our thoughts and prayers. We can't begin to express how sad we are to hear of his passing. I hope his memory brings you many laughs and happy thoughts. We are thinking of you.

Crossing the Bar

Sunset and evening star,
And one clear call for me!
And may there be no moaning of the bar,
When I put out to sea,

But such a tide as moving seems asleep,
Too full for sound and foam,
When that which drew from out the boundless deep
Turns again home.

Twilight and evening bell,
And after that the dark!
And may there be no sadness of farewell,
When I embark;

For tho' from out our bourne of Time and Place
The flood may bear me far,
I hope to see my Pilot face to face
When I have crost the bar.

I was lucky to work with Marc and have the opportunity to experience his creativity firsthand. He was a great colleague but more importantly, and what was apparent to all who worked with him, was that he was a good person.

Marc’s delight in and devotion to his family was readily and clearly evident. His zest for life, “joie de vie,” was palpable and lives on in his sons. I am so sad and sorry for all of you.
