Three years ago I became one of Ann's caregivers in her home at Covenant Shores. We passed the time listening to opera music, walking through the rose garden and eating. Ann enjoyed food! And she was a good conversationalist. She introduced me to Willa Cather books, which I would read aloud to her. Once she corrected me when I said lay down when I should have said lie down. And of course, she was right. A pleasant lady who played a mean game of double solitaire!

Ann and I were sisters in Chapter CJ P.E.O.
As a young mother I was invited into this amazing group of older women who nurtured and encouraged me to be the best that I could be. Public speaking, singing, telling stories, giving programs and learning to cook. All PEO's are good cooks! Especially Ann.
We all loved it when Ann had us for lunch in her beautiful Blue Ridge Home. Always colorful primroses on the blue table cloth.
The smells from her kitchen of some spectacular chicken dish with a jello salad and tasty desert. She was a charming hostess and so humble with all her talents.
I loved her laugh or giggle and that rye smile.
When ever she asked you to do a skit or a play you never refused. It was a privilege to please her and be asked. She was special.
Our chapter disbanded years ago, as age took its toll. But I will always remember this gracious lovely, tiny lady.
God Bless you Ann Mitchell Burdick.

Joan, thank you so much for taking the time to call me yesterday to let me know of your mother's passing. Your parents were so good to me when I moved to Seattle in the early 1980s and invited me to live with them at a pretty difficult time in my life. Your mother would get up early every morning and read the Bible and pray with me before I left for work. She was a true Christian. Although I was a Christian at the time, it was through living with your parents and your mother taking me to St. Luke's and Blessed Sacrament that really cemented my faith. Of course, we were members of Bethany under Pastor Denham -- how I miss those days! Your mother gave me Oswald Chambers' devotional, "My Utmost for His Highest," which is currently on my nightstand after all these many years, and I read it daily. I can still see your mother's beautiful blue eyes. She was such a sweet, gentle person, and I loved her. I am forever grateful for the influence she had on my life.
