Hans Lund Obituary

Hans LUND Born Nov. 17, 1914 in Kansas City, Kansas, to Hugo and Jessie Chestnut Lund. In 1930, at 16, he graduated from high school in Kansas and began attending Yakima Valley Jr. College in Yakima, Wash. 1933-1938 Hans attended the University of Washington where he was a member of the Delta Upsilon Fraternity. In 1938 Hans married college sweetheart Dorthyan Ethington, and began his banking career as National Bank of Commerce in Seattle as a bookkeeper. Hans and Dorthyan started their family with the birth of daughter Karen in 1940, followed by daughter Kristin in 1942. During the war, at age 27, Hans left banking to work for the US Navy as a civilian employee at Pier 91 in the bookkeeping department. At war's end, Hans resumed his banking career and welcomed two more daughters to the family, Judith, in 1944, and Johanna, in 1946. In 1946, at age 30, he moved his family to Tonasket, Washington to work for the First National Bank in Tonasket, the Oroville State Bank in Oroville, and The Lund Insurance agency, all business begun by his uncle Arthur Lund, his father Hugo Lund, and his grandfather Hans Lund. Daughter Sally was born in 1952. In 1962 Hans was elected President of Washington Bankers Association. Hans served as the head of the Washington State Small Business Association and was committed to championing small independent businesses. In 1970 he retired from banking and continued his interest in The Lund Insurance Agency until 1988. He was active in community service, holding offices in Tonasket Chamber of Commerce, and Lion's Club. Hans loved his life in Tonasket with man friends, hunting, fishing, and mushrooming. Hans and Dorthyan moved to Seattle in 1979 to live on Bitter Lake. The last 3 years the couple has resided at Ida Culver retirement home where he enjoyed new friends and at least one daily session at the pool table. Hans died Sunday, January 22, 2006. He was 91 years old. Hans is survived by Dorthyan, his wife of 67 years, 4 daughters, 6 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. I just wanted to let you know you are all in my thoughts and prayers.

I am going to the beach with Renee and the girls. This is the perfect place to remember Papa as we had so many great times with him on those trips. Love to you all Beth
