James Morrison Obituary

James D. MORRISON, Jr.

The world lost a true hero on April 10, 2015 with the passing of Jay Morrison, a beloved and treasured husband, father, son, brother, brother-in-law and uncle. To the rest of the world, he was a bigger-than-life F-15 Top Gun Fighter pilot who served in Desert Storm and who was in his 19th year with FedEx currently flying the MD-11. To his family he was their steadfast rock and protector, who always took charge and knew what to do in every situation.

Born March 15, 1961, Jay grew up on Mercer Island and attended the University of Washington where he was a Phi Delta Theta. After college he joined the US Air Force and became an F-15 pilot earning prestigious Top Gun accolades. He flew in Desert Storm and is a true decorated hero. His 10 years in the military took him to live in Holland, Germany, Virginia and back home to Washington. Never one for a desk job, his career with FedEx took him to many corners of the world, sometimes all in one week.

Alongside Jay through all of his world adventures, was his loving wife Cindi and their 2 children, Jacob and Ashley. Jay was very serious and successful in life, but never lost the child inside. His family will always remember his never ending pranks and his dry sense of humor. When home, he split his time between Everett and Leavenworth, where he planned to eventually retire.

Jay is survived by his wife and children, Cindi, Jacob, and Ashley as well as his mother, Mary Morrison, his brother, David Morrison (Barb), his sister, Marilyn Chorak (Mario), several nieces and nephews, and extended family. He was proceeded in death by his Father, Denny Morrison, Father-in-law, David Olson and Mother-in-law, Linda Olson.

An avid hiker, Jay would tell you that in lieu of a service, you should "take a hike" and enjoy all that nature has to offer. In his memory please donate to the Washington Trails Association where he and Cindi had a 75 mile hike planned this summer. https://www.gifttool.com/donations/Donate?ID=1468&AID=765

Such a big loss to us LAX based FDX pilots. I worked with Jay often on Asia trips. We discussed much especially our daughters issues. It helped to trust a friend about that sensitive topic. I was with Jay in a taxi traveling to the airport in Penang when he received a call from Cindi about an issue with his daughter. I will miss him much. RIP my friend.

I am saddened to hear of your loss of James. As a fellow Eagle driver, FedEx MD-11 pilot, and long time Washingtonian, this really hits close to home. I am so sorry for your loss.

I'm sorry to hear about Jay. We worked together and our paths crossed only once, July 28, 2006. We had to emergency egress an airplane and he helped save the crew by being the one to make the decision to prepare the exit from the airplane. Being the only occupant of the rear of the airplane, he made the immediate and correct decision to use the emergency method to open one of the main crew door to deploy the escape slide. As we were running away from the burning airplane, he said, "I can't believe this is happening". Good job, Jay. Rest in peace, my friend.

I do not know your family, nor did I know James, but I felt particularly saddened by your loss, and just felt the need to reach out to you. Blessings,

So sorry to hear about Jay. He was all American, in every thing he did. He was my right hand man in Boeing F-22 Pilot Training, helping design the data base that would become the simulator and courseware requirements. My big loss was FedEx's gain when he moved away from the desk and back into the cockpit. Will always remember his intellect and energy. We've all lost a true hero, co-worker and friend.
