Nadine Anchan Obituary

Nadine Vena Ross ANCHAN Long time West Seattle resident, passed away peacefully May 24, 2003. Born September 16, 1915 on a Tillamook, OR. dairy farm to Helen (Stella) and Frank Hanenkratt, Nadine and her mother moved to Portland in the early 20's after her father died, and she was then raised by her mother with help from her grandmother, Alta Smith. In 1930, Nadine's mother married Portland policeman, George Marshall, Nadine's very much loved stepfather who continued to guide her growing years. In the 40's, Nadine married Ray Johnston and had two children, Thomas and Delores. Later, she married Daniel Ross and had Molly. In the 70's, Nadine worked for several years at the Seattle School District, first at West Seattle High School and later at Meany Middle School. Throughout these years, she excelled at sewing, needlework and ceramics. After Daniel's passing, while in her late seventies, Nadine married John Anchan with whom she traveled and enjoyed a wonderfully, loving relationship until her recent decline in health. Predeceased by daughter, Carol Cook, granddaughter, Kristina Wallace and great grandson, Noah Sperry, Nadine will be missed greatly by her children, Thomas Johnston (Karen), Delores Johnston-Peck (Guy), Molly Ross (John), Eva Ross Wallace (Bob) and Janet Ross Sperry (Loren). Nadine leaves grandchildren Teresa Johnston, Crpl. Paul Johnston USMC, Michael (Mick) Hagler, Carol Hagler, Barry Ross Miller, Rebecca Jones, Kathryn O'Connell, Ch. Petty Off. 1st Cl. Mark Sperry USCG (Laura), Jeffrey Sperry, Kristopher Sperry and several great grandchildren. The family would like to thank the caring staff of Park West Care Center in West Seattle, especially Jane Tellis, Delores Simpson and Dorothy Sullivan. A Memorial Service will be held at the Admiral Congregational Church of Christ at 4320 S.W. Hill Street, Seattle, WA. 98116 on Saturday, June 7 at 1:30 p.m.
