Thomas Wilbur Obituary
Thomas (Tom) Scott WILBUR Age 69, of Edmonds, WA, passed away on October 17, 2003, after a brief illness. Tom was born April 13, 1934, in Elyria, Ohio to Bryson & Alice Wilbur. In 1935, the Wilbur family moved to Oberlin, Ohio, where Tom spent his early years enthusiastically hiking camping and playing sports. After he graduated from Oberlin High School in 1953, Tom attended Washington State University, served in the U.S. Army, and then married his high school sweetheart, Sally Staubus, in 1956. The couple then returned to his beloved Northwest, where Tom resumed his studies at WSU. In 1960, Tom and Sally started their family while living in Spokane, WA. They had a son, Scott, son, Thomas and a daughter, Ellen. Tom and his young family moved to East Wenatchee, WA in 1964, where Tom enjoyed hunting, boating on the Columbia River and camping with family and friends. During these years, Tom, while employed by Burroughs Corp and later Xerox Corp, also became a cherry orchardist until his retirement in 1987. Following this, Tom & Sally moved to Bremerton and Olympia, WA, where they learned to sail and developed a real love for travel. Tom's other hobbies included cooking and jigsaw and crossword puzzles. Their travels often took them to Mexico & Hawaii and after Sally's retirement, expanded to England, Greece, Italy, Bahamas, Machu Picchu, the Galapagos Islands, Panama Canal and throughout the U.S. Because of their love of travel, becoming fulltime RVers was a natural progression. Tom & Sally began traveling fulltime in April 1996. During the next eight years, Tom & Sally visited countless cities, towns and parks throughout the U.S. Even considering their many trips abroad, Tom found great joy and peace living in their motorhome on the Arizona desert. He loved the sunrises and sunsets and the camaraderie of friends while sitting around evening campfires. Survivors of his loving family include wife, Sally of Edmonds, son, Scott of East Wenatchee, son, Tom and his wife, Jennifer of Mead, WA, daughter, Ellen Gerber and her husband, Kent of Bothell, his mother, Alice of Edmonds, his brother, Franklin and his wife, Betty of Oberlin, OH, his aunt Margaret Pfaffle of Wheaton, IL and granddaughters, Laura and Camille Gerber and Jessica and Julia Wilbur.
