David Sparks Obituary

On June 30, 2025 David E. Sparks, of Leeton, went to be with his Lord and Savior. David was born to Paul and Betty (Patton) Sparks, on October 22, 1942 in Sedalia, MO. David enjoyed many adventures growing up on his grandparents' farm and in his neighborhood in Sedalia, MO.
In 1960, David graduated from Smith Cotton High School and then attended CMSU in Warrensburg, MO, graduating in 1971 with a BS in Education. While at CMSU he was goofing around in the student union where Peggy (Myers) Sparks would catch his eye and, after several hilarious events, he began dating her. On July 31, 1965, David married the love of his life, Peggy, and they began an amazing life together. Throughout his life David worked construction with Local 101, coached basketball, baseball, and football, taught history, and was an administrator for various school districts in Missouri.
David's passion were his family and serving his Savior, Jesus Christ. His wife, kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids were always who he wanted to be with. He loved watching them play ball, swim, or just play. David was a kid at heart and lived every moment of his life to the fullest. He always tried to look on the positive side of things. He loved music and dancing (especially with his beautiful bride), mowing, using his tractor, traveling, and playing pepper or horse with his kids. He loved to play the harmonica and whistling.
David was a member and Deacon at Pleasant Valley Baptist Church (Chilhowee) and was a teacher and leader there and other churches through his life. David could kick up a conversation with ANYONE and would tell stories all day long. He and Peggy traveled to China in 2017-18 on a mission trip to teach/consult in a Christian Chinese School. This would truly be a trip David would never forget.
David is survived by his wife, Peggy; son, Darin Sparks (Leeton); and Daughter, Dawnja (Robert) McCormack (Leeton). Five grandchildren, Jon (McKenzie) McCormack and their four children- Michael, Kaisley, Kymber and Sorren (Warrensburg); Natasha Sparks and her son, Gunnar (Clinton); Matthew Sparks (Leeton); Cody (Jennifer) McCormack and their two daughters- Whitley and Wren (Leeton); and Michaela (Lindsey) McCormack (Warrensburg). His Sister Karen (Phillip) Lees (Clinton); four sister-in-laws, Judith (Lee) Stark (Leeton); Charlotte (Gary) Andrews (Custer, SD); Deanna (Dale) Lindsey (Sedalia); Donna (Charlie) Trelow (Sedalia); and numerous nieces and nephews. David was preceded in death by his parents.
A visitation will be held from 1:00-2:40 p.m. on Thursday, July 10, 2025 at Pleasant Valley Baptist Church, 816 SW 401st Rd, Chilhowee, MO 64733. A celebration of life will follow the visitation.
A small meal of David's favorite foods and fellowship will follow. He had tons of stories that he shared to us over the years and we ask everyone to please bring your favorite stories about him to share.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations in memory of David Sparks to Standing In the Gap Ministries in Warrensburg, MO or Pleasant Valley Baptist Church in Chilhowee, MO.

Dearest Peggy and family my heart goes out to you. David was an absolute one of a kind blessing on this earth. As a young woman, I remember how sweet he was anytime I came to visit my mom Dorothy at the flower shop where Peggy worked. He was always joking around, always positive always making me laugh and feel welcome. He was an amazing man and although I didn´t get to spend a lot of time around David, he was a subtle mentor of positivity in my life a reminder to put on a smile and embrace joy. His big smile and piercing blue eyes could reduce the stress and turn the mood of the room at a very busy flower shop to one of laughter and light hearted fun
