Carl was blessed with a long and satisfying life. Some of the most important elements of his life were his family, longtime friends, surviving the War, his education, emigrating to Canada in 1957, and working in Edmonton Alberta. In 1959 Carl relocated to San Francisco, California where he happily experienced the richness and diversity of the Bay Area, the clothing business of Jay Briggs with the Gronowski family, and giving his time as a volunteer for the symphony, the Opera, the ballet, the museum. Some of Carl's most memorable life experiences were visiting many interesting countries, and being blessed by Pope Paul IV at the Vatican in 1969."
Carl is survived by his sister Elizabeth, and nephews, who are back in Germany.
Private arrangements have been entrusted to the San Francisco Columbarium & Funeral Home.

On behalf of my mother, Betty Garvey, the founder and former Director of the Diamond Senior Center at 117 Diamond Street, I would like to recognize and salute Carl, one of the outstanding supporting members and participants of the Diamond Senior Center. My mother spoke highly of Carl and my family got to know him as well. He was such a gentleman and would write my sister and I beautiful letters. We would often talk with him at lunch at the Diamond Senior Center which changed names to the Betty Garvey Senior Center/Castro Senior Center. He had many friends at the senior center. I was able to see him a year before his death. The Center thrived because of men like Carl and he was blessed with a long life and many friends. May Carl rest in peace. He was a wonderful man.
