Caroline Wolmuth Obituary

Caroline Wolmuth
11/16/1941 - 07/30/2025
Richard and Betty Buckwalter were the wonderful parents to three daughters, born and raised in Palo Alto, CA. Caroline Wolmuth, the eldest, is survived by her sisters, Louise Rising and Irene Thomas.
After studying fashion design at Pratt Institute in New York, she married Warren Wolmuth in 1964. The newlyweds resided in San Francisco's Marina district before emigrating to Vancouver, Canada where they had their son, Derk Wolmuth. In 1973 they moved to Victoria, B.C. where they settled for the next 50+ years.
Caroline continued studies in Visual Arts at the University of Victoria where she graduated with honors. Clothing design, Ikebana, playing the recorder and cooking were her creative expressions using colors, forms, sounds and tastes. She also started a business, called Paper Works, with her best friend, Christine Packford. They made and sold paper costume jewelry along with party decorations for local events and weddings. She and her business partner were social instigators of many elaborate gatherings.
She loved to travel the world but was especially fond of Venice, Italy. Caroline attended Carnivale where she designed and made inventive costumes for her friends and herself. Attending masked balls, held in lovely old palaces along the Grand Canal, were highlights, full of magic, fantasy and romance.
Caroline was such a generous and open-hearted woman, taking many under her wing. Her warmth, humor and storytelling with passion, amused us with laughter and joy. She was a people collector and will be sorely missed by all who knew her. We will be celebrating her life in Victoria, B.C.
