Charles Segalas Obituary

Charles Segalas
October 11, 1946 - November 22, 2023
Charles A. Segalas passed away peacefully on November 22, 2023, at the age of 77.
Charles was a third-generation native San Franciscan born to Valerie and Ambrose Segalas, both of whose parents immigrated to San Francisco from the Béarn region of France in the late 1800s. He attended Notre Dame des Victoires and St. Ignatius College Preparatory in San Francisco and continued his education at Regis College in Colorado. He went on to get his master's degree in international business at Thunderbird, The American Graduate School of International Management in Arizona.
With his master's degree in hand, Charles began his career with AIG (American International Group) and traveled the world working in Latin America, the Philippines, and France. When he returned to San Francisco, he managed his commercial properties in SOMA and in his spare time was active in many of the French social clubs. He was the past president of the Lique Henri IV, the Bay Area Faneurs, and Le Comité Officiel, and he actively participated in La Gauloise and the Franco-American Lodge. Charles was also very proud to serve as president of the Alliance Française de San Francisco, an organization that promotes knowledge and appreciation of the French language and French culture.
Charlie loved his wife, Christine, who was more than happy to indulge his desire to travel by frequently surprising him with new destinations that they could enjoy and share together. He loved to ski and was on the National Ski Patrol for many years. But everyone knew that Charlie's greatest joy was regaling his family, friends and strangers, in either French, Spanish or English, with his many stories that were often peppered with exaggeration and his quick wit. We also knew that as much as he enjoyed talking, he also enjoyed his wine and his family-made liqueur, Amer Ségalas.
Charles leaves behind his devoted wife of 37 years, Christine; his loving son, Alexander; and his beautiful daughter-in-law, Galyna. He will be missed by all his friends, his family and his fellow club members. We raise a toast to Charles – Tchin-tchin!
A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date. Donations can be made to Médecins Sans Frontières/Doctors Without Borders, an organization that Charlie has always admired for their compassion and courage.

Charlie was one of my first and best friends in San Francisco. Just thinking of those special times brings a smile. He was so joyful, charming and always a gracious gentleman. He made a mean liver and onion dish to rival my mom´s. RIP sweet friend.
