Daniel Beaulieu Obituary

Daniel Armand Beaulieu
09/30/1946 - 02/12/2025
Dan was born on September 30, 1946, in Grand Isle, Maine. He passed away peacefully from Parkinson's Disease at the age of 78 on February 12, 2025, in San Francisco.
Dan attended local schools in his hometown of Madawaska, Maine, Bucksport Seminary in Maine and Collège Saint-Louis in Edmonston, New Brunswick, Canada. There he excelled at various academic and athletic exploits, until, in 1966, he was drafted.
As a sergeant, he returned from Vietnam in 1968 where he had served with the 5th Special Forces Group (Airborne), earning a Bronze Star with Valor, two Purple Hearts, the Air Medal and the Combat Infantryman Badge. After his return from Vietnam, he never wanted to speak about his combat experiences. En route to Madawaska after his discharge from the U.S. Army, Dan spent a few days in and fell in love with San Francisco. After finishing his Bachelor's Degree in Philosophy at Collège Saint-Louis, he drove back to San Francisco and made it his permanent home.
Dan found work at the California State Automobile Association (CSAA), starting in its Claims Department. As hobbies, he participated as a baritone in the San Francisco Opera and "The Lamplighters" musical theater company. He established himself as a serious 49ers fan (from Kezar to Candlestick) and earned a law degree from the Lincoln Law School. He continued to work at CSAA for 44½ years, retiring from its Litigation Department in 2013.
Dan and Kathy Cunningham were married on June 6, 1986. Their son, John Charles (or "Chuck" as he prefers) was born on December 22, 1988.
Dan was a straight-and-narrow, dependable, kind and generous man. He was always willing to help his friends, colleagues and family. He was very involved in the Saint Ignatius Fathers' Club as well as his son's Boy Scout Troop 14. He built and spent over thirty years at his summer home in Northern Maine, about ten miles from where he grew up.
He was predeceased by his father, J. Cyril Beaulieu, in 2012, his mother, Agnes (Daigle) Beaulieu, in 2017, his brother, Alfred, in 1991, and his brother-in-law, Donald Greene, on September 11, 2001. He is survived by his wife, Kathy Beaulieu, and their son, Chuck. He is also survived by his sister, Cecilia (Richard) Rhoda, of Houlton, Maine, his sister, Claudette Greene, of Portland, Maine, his sister-in-law, Elizabeth (Alfred) Beaulieu, of Bangor, Maine, his brother, John (Wanda) Beaulieu, of Franklin, Virginia, and numerous nieces and nephews and grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
Donations in Dan's memory may be made to Notre Dame des Victoires Catholic Church, 566 Bush Street, San Francisco, CA 94108.

I learned only today that Dan had passed away. It was a very important person in my life as we were romantically involved for four years in my early 20s. He´s always held a special place in my heart.

Our careers at CSAA overlaps substantially, but I left long before he did. My heart goes out to Kathy, Claudette and John. I´ll never forget our trip to Canada and Madawaska, and his lovely parents and siblings. Also, Chuck, having been referred to me by our mutual friend. Erik Jensen successfully sold me a set of Cutco knives I´m so sorry I didn´t know until now of Dan´s passing.

This photo of Dan was taken in 2014 at the memorial service for Jack Dennis who ran the claims department at CSAA
