Daniel Mahoney Obituary

Daniel Mahoney
02/15/1961 - 07/30/2025
Daniel J. Mahoney, 64, passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer on July 30, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 37 years, Lorraine Mahoney; his beloved children, Rachel Montgomery (Tyler Montgomery) and Jeffrey Mahoney; his cherished siblings, Geraldine Ryan (Hank Ryan), Maureen Vier (John Vier), and sister-in-law Lynn Mahoney. He is also lovingly remembered by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gerald and Veronica Mahoney; his brother, Michael Mahoney; and his dear cousin, Marilyn Byrne.
A fourth-generation San Franciscan, Dan was raised in the Parkside District. He was a proud graduate of St. Cecilia School, St. Ignatius High School, St. Mary's College (Bachelor of Arts in Management), and Colorado Technical University (Master of Science in Business Management).
Dan dedicated over 30 years of distinguished service to the San Francisco Police Department (SFPD). Following his retirement from SFPD, Dan continued his law enforcement service as Deputy Director of the Northern California Regional Intelligence Center (NCRIC), where he oversaw critical Homeland Security programs.
In addition to his law enforcement career, Dan co-founded and operated Traffic Collision Consultants, Inc. with his late brother Mike, a company specializing in accident investigations.
Though proud of his professional and personal accomplishments, Dan's greatest joy in life was his family. As a devoted father, he never missed an opportunity to support and participate in his children's lives.
In his free time, Dan enjoyed golfing, bowling in his Tuesday night league, and making lasting memories on yearly family vacations. As a passionate supporter of Bay Area sports, Dan was a devoted San Francisco 49ers and San Francisco Giants fan. He rarely missed a 49ers home game and could always be found in the stands, proudly wearing the team's red and gold.
Dan Mahoney was a man of integrity, humor, and heart. He was deeply loved and will be greatly missed.
A memorial mass will be held on September 24, 2025, at 11:00am at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church (2601 San Ramon Valley Blvd, San Ramon, CA 94583). A celebration of life will follow at The Bridges Golf Club in the Garden Pavilion (9000 S Gale Ridge Rd, San Ramon, CA 94582).

Dan was my cousin, the Byrne´s and the Mahoney´s were the product of the Jerry and Vera & Frank and Ro. We spent every birthday together, vacation at the Russian River& celebrated all the ups and downs of life together. He was a wonderful person he was funny and kind. If you were lucky enough to know him you life was enriched many times over.
I miss both Dan and Mike they were such good men.

Very sad news about both Dan and Mike, both exemplary officers and inspectors of the SFPD that I worked with over the years in their various details. Sincere condolences to both families.

Dan was a great guy! As a fellow San Franciscan and SI alum, he and I shared a number of laughs over all the folks we knew in common...seemed like it was most of the population of SF from the 60's onward! I thoroughly enjoyed working with him while I was with UASI North Bay and our interactions with the NCRIC!
May the good Lord hold him in the Palm of His Hands!

Great man, with the highest character. Never saw him get upset, even on the golf course. Will miss seeing him and brother Mike at the 19th hole

A good man who loved his job at SFPD and who was good at it. Great sense of humor. Gone too young.
