Daniel Mandell Obituary

Daniel Craig Mandell
March 7, 1973 - October 18, 2022
The world dimmed on Tuesday, October 18, 2022, when Daniel "Dan" Craig Mandell, 49, died unexpectedly in Marin County, Calif. Dan's big personality and even bigger laugh filled every room he entered - he was extraordinary. He and his wife, Janna Mandell, told their two beloved children, Stella Rose, 9, and Elijah Nash, 6, their love story practically every night as a bedtime fairytale that proved true love and soulmates exist in real life. Dan was a "papa bear" to his wife and children - nurturing, protective and present, which is why the hole he left is immense - because he was their everything.
Dan gave so much of himself to those around him, yet it never left him depleted - it was like helping people and listening to their hardships bolstered him rather than hindered him. Active in the community, Dan coached Stella and Elijah's soccer teams, his booming voice carrying across the fields, calling out trick plays like Ted Lasso.
Dan was a devoted son to his father, Dr. Pete Mandell, and mother, Dr. Jeanne Quivey Mandell, whom he saw and spoke with as often as he could. He was the kind of guy who would jump in his car to drive an hour so that his mother didn't have to move heavy boxes. He loved his parents fiercely and looked up to them as his role models.
Dan is also mourned by his sister, Rachel Basile, her husband, Anthony Basile, and their children, Gabriel, 12, and Anya, 9, whom he loved dearly.
Second to family and friends, Dan loved sports. He was a star athlete at San Mateo High School in San Mateo, Calif., where he played football and ran track. He later played rugby at Yale in New Haven, Conn.
He was a lifelong sports fan, something he loved to share with his father, yelling at the television while the San Francisco 49ers and Giants played as if the coaches could hear his criticisms. He would clap loudly for the Golden State Warriors and bellow at the refs, telling them to "get your eyes checked!"
When Dan died, he was Vice President of Sales and Strategic Partnerships for Verascore, a financial technology firm in San Anselmo, Calif. Previously, he was Vice President, Head of Strategy and Sales for Baton Systems, a Fremont, Calif.-based financial technology firm, and he was Vice President for the Principle Strategic Investments Group at Goldman Sachs, where he worked for 13 years.
The family wishes to thank the community of San Anselmo, Calif., who have rallied around Dan's wife and children in these troubling times.
Dan's light will forever be kindled in the hearts of everyone he loved and inspired.
