Diane De Matei Obituary

Diane De Matei
08/20/1934 - 03/12/2025
Diane De Matei was born Diane Demattei on August 20, 1934 in San Francisco to Giuseppe and Giovanna. She grew up in Burlingame with her brother, Angelo, and sister, Lillian. Upon entering Burlingame High, Diane learned of an upperclassman who shared her same last name. Eventually, she met this junior named Edward and that was that! High school sweethearts, Diane and Ed, were married for 66 years before Ed's passing in 2023.
Diane is survived by her children, Liz Knight (Kerry), Edward De Matei (Lanette), and Joseph De Matei (Andrew Lammes). Cherished Noni of Tony/Lyndsay, Renee/Louis, Rachel, Brady/Katy, Parker and Lia. Loving Bisnoni to Madison, Luca, Harper and Finn. Dear sister of Lillian Balliet, brother-in-law Nathan Agresti and several beloved nieces and nephews. They will remember Diane as the kind of woman who always put others ahead of herself. Neighbors and friends will also remember Diane for her farm grown veggies she'd leave at their doorsteps.
Diane and Ed shared time between their home in Millbrae and their ranch land in the small Delta farming town of Isleton. An avid 49er Faithful, she helped Ed host fun filled tailgate parties. While raising her children, Diane served as a leader in Cub Scouts and Camp Fire Girls. She also enjoyed her weekly bowling league, cheering on the Cal Bears, and traveling to Italy. Diane passed away on March 12 at age 90.
Her family would like to acknowledge the care she received while at Brookside Skilled Nursing Facility where very few words were spoken yet her signature wink and smile spoke volumes. They are especially indebted to longtime caregiver Luca for treating Diane as family.
Private arrangements have been made.

As a childhood friend of Joe, Mrs. De Matei was such a wonderful mom figure to be around whenever I was at Loree Ln. She was always a calm, comforting wise presence. I cherish those memories.
