Elizabeth Travers Obituary

Elizabeth Travers
July 13, 1931 - September 9, 2023
Cherished wife, proud mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Elizabeth peacefully passed away in Palo Alto on September 9th. Originally from Cleveland, Ohio, she moved to Oakland as a young girl. In 1952, she graduated from the Kaiser Permanente School of Nursing in its third graduating class. Elizabeth then moved to Rome, caring for hospitalized American GIs. Developing a lifelong love of travel and adventure, she climbed the Matterhorn before returning to the States.
In California, Elizabeth met her husband, Jean, and they married on St. Patrick's Day in 1955 at Old St. Mary's Church in San Francisco. Settling in Redwood City during the 1960s, they actively protested the shipping of napalm from the Port of RC and supported many environmental organizations. Elizabeth worked as a public health nurse in San Mateo and Santa Clara Counties for many years. Her love of gardening led to volunteering as a docent at Filoli.
Elizabeth lived independently until 2022 when she moved to the Memory Support Unit at Vi Palo Alto. Her family deeply appreciates the exceptional care provided by the Vi staff and Sutter Hospice. Preceded in death by her husband, Jean; parents; and siblings. Elizabeth is survived by her children; grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.
