Dr. Gerald I. West passed away peacefully on September 30, 2022. Gerald was born June 3, 1937 in St. Louis, Missouri to Frank and Effie West.
Gerald received his Doctorate degree from Purdue University in 1967. He was awarded Professor Emeritus from San Francisco State University in 2005. As a Psychologist, he was a preeminent leader in the Bay Area, consulting/directing many community based programs.
Gerald was married for 62 wonderful years to Blondel (Bonnie) West. He is survived by his wife, their son, Gerald West MD, daughter-in-law, Natasha West MD, 3 grandchildren, a sister and a brother. He will be deeply missed by those who loved him.
On October 22, 2022 at 11:30 a.m., a Memorial Service will be held at the San Francisco Columbarium and Funeral Home, 1 Loraine Court, San Francisco, CA 94118. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the United Negro College Fund at http://give.uncf.org.

In the early 1970s life was rough for me on all fronts. I had one professor who encouraged me, and he had faith in my abilities. He wrote letters in my behalf, and he made telephone calls for me. He got me an introduction with an important person at UCSF. Dr. West was an incredible teacher. I loved every minute of his classes. He was my faculty advisor. It is a fact that I am a medical doctor still practicing in my eighties. I would not be sitting here in my office this morning if it were not for Dr. West.
Words can not express how much I owe for my successful
career. I still use the tools that he taught me every day with my cancer patients.
