Heath Caceres Obituary

Heath Caceres
November 23,1970July 29, 2021
Beloved educator Heath Caceres, 50, current resident of Marinwood-San Rafael, California, died tragically, after a sporting accident while camping with family. A loving, involved husband and father, friend to many, he will be remembered for his inspirational leadership qualities, unflagging energy, enthusiasm for educating our youth, unfailing support for his school community, upbeat can-do attitude, his charismatic smile and love of life.
Born in Los Angeles, Mr. Caceres grew up in Point Reyes Station, where he attended West Marin School, followed by Saint Ignatius College Preparatory in SF, receiving his BA at Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo and his Masters Ed. in Admin from SFSU.
A gifted athlete, Mr. Caceres loved sports. He excelled in soccer, swimming, basketball, biking, paddle boarding, swimming, and running…everything attempted.
Mr. Caceres spent most of his 25 year professional career, within SFUSD: from student teacher to school principal: Cesar Chavez, Edison, Claire Lilienthal, Lafayette, Star King, and of late New Traditions. He also spent 1 year as principal of Park Elementary in Mill Valley. Even in the summer, Mr. Caceres chose to serve in education, most recently giving his energy to the community at Everett Middle School's 2021 program.
Devotion to education ran deep in Mr. Caceres' family. Heath's wife, his great grandmother, and many aunts, uncles and cousins have been teachers and administrators. He was also strongly encouraged to be an educator by his late father, Stan Schuler, who spent 12 rewarding years volunteering full-time in San Francisco city schools after his retirement.

Mr. Caceres loved the Bay Area and was passionate about nature and especially West Marin. He shared his love of the region with his children, teaching them about the area's trees, trails, and beaches.
He will be missed by many. He is survived by his wife Mariah, daughters, Kai, Luca, Ava and Chloe, his mother, Mila, and siblings, Marcus Schuler and Lea Schuler Hickman.
October 2, 2021, from 11 to 1PM, a celebration honoring Mr. Caceres and his commitment to education will be held at Lafayette Elementary at 4545 Anza Street, San Francisco, CA 94121 415-750-8483. The public is invited to attend. At 12 pm the playground will be dedicated to Mr. Caceres by the Lafayette community. A private commemorative celebrating his life will be held in West Marin the following day.

I had the pleasure of teaching with Heath at Claire Lilienthal. We both shared the philosophy of creating joyful learners and a love for athletics and nature. One of my sons had the pleasure of being in Heath's fifth grade class, and my wife and I were always pleased at the joy and excitement for learning that our son showed throughout that year. Part of his spirit will live within all of those he touched throughout his life....
