James Giannini Obituary

James Giannini Sept. 30, 1932 - Feb. 27, 2012 Jim passed away peacefully at home in the arms of his loving family. Survived by beloved wife Dolores, sons Jim Jr. and Gary, daughter-in-law Cheri. Adored grandfather of Eva, Daniel, Randee, Nick, Vincent, and John. Precious great granddaughters Trista and Chloe. Brother of Andrew, several nieces and nephews. Jim was born in San Francisco. He grew up in Daly City. He was an industrious young man working at a paper route, a box factory, grocery sales, and deliveries at his mother's Italian deli and store. He attended Jefferson High School where he met the true love of his life, Dolores. Jim and Dolores were married 61 years. Jim served in the Navy for four years during the Korean War. Upon return to civilian life, he went right back to work as a grocer. He soon moved into the bread delivery business and worked for the Colombo Baking Co. for 30 years as a teamster. He was respectfully nicknamed the "king" as his personality and great business acumen made his route in the Diablo Valley one of the top producers in the East Bay. Jim was an avid duck hunter and conservationist, a member of Big Lakes duck club and California Waterfowl. He was fantastic in the kitchen - his dinners were legendary. He loved to share everything from vegetables in his excellent garden to labor, toys and tools. Most of all he shared friendship and compassion and was loved and admired by all the special people in his life. Jim's wishes were for private services to be held. Contributions can be made to California Waterfowl Association.

Jim, although many moons have risen and set since our fun days at Jefferson High, I have never forgotten what a terrific friend you have been, and you remain as one of the finest people I have had the privilege of knowing and calling "My Friend".... Vince

So very sorry to hear about the passing of Big Jim. In our small group of friends he was always the surrogate father and guidance counselor. I had many a good discussions with Jim. He will be sorely missed. Best regards to the family.

I was extremely saddened to hear of Jim's passing, and my deepest sympathy and condolences go out to his wife Dolores and his entire family at this very difficult time. I attended Jefferson High with both Dolores and Jim, and I considered Jim one of my closest friends in High School. Jim was one of the nicest and friendliest people I have ever known, and I know he will be sorely missed by all who knew him. We played on the Jefferson football team, and Jim was both a standout player and friend. The world has definitely lost a truly quality person with his passing. To know him was to love him.
