James Newton Obituary

James Theodore Newton

April 12, 1945 - May 31, 2018

Rockridge resident James Theodore Newton passed away suddenly on May 31, 2018 of a pulmonary embolism. Jim was a world traveller and his friends span every continent. He was an intellectual and had a passion for history and the diversity of human culture.
Jim was born on the Southside of Chicago and attended South Shore High School in 1962. He graduated with a Bachelors degree in Anthropology from the University of Chicago in 1966 and a Masters degree in Public Administration from Syracuse University in 1974.
During his life Jim worked for organizations such as the Peace Corps, CARE and Citibank. These projects took him and his family to such countries as India, Bangladesh, Indonesia, the USA, Zaire, Mauritius, Nigeria, Finland, the UK, and Pakistan and the UAE.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years Raija, his sons Mika and Timo, and his granddaughter Ava.
