John Dusterberry Obituary

John C. Dusterberry

August 3, 1921 - February 25, 2018

The family and friends of John "Dusty" Dusterberry are deeply saddened to say farewell to an extraordinary gentleman.
Well read and informed; his sharp wit made him an eloquent speaker and intelligent listener. The perfect host and guest.
John was born in San Francisco to Margaret Crothers and Frank Dusterberry. He lived and attended school in Centerville and then went on to attain a degree as an electrical engineer from Stanford University.
Dusty married Marion Louise Ziegler April 9, 1944 and after several years they opened their arms to daughter, Anne.
After college, John did his WWII service with the US Navy at Ames Research Center; then transitioned into employment with NASA. His work in wind tunnels and flight simulation was groundbreaking and led him into consulting after retirement.
John received several awards for his work including the NASA Exceptional Service Medal for development of key research.
Widely traveled; John was always interested in different places and cultures.
He kept active with a current events group, a group of NASA retirees and several neighborhood activities.
His pride and passion was being a Stanford alumni. He followed Stanford football and basketball through the years and could be seen in the seats of many games.
A faithful supporter of numerous charities and causes; his donations allowed many to help throughout the world.
He is survived by his daughter, four grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, a brother-in-law, numerous nieces and nephews and several close friends and neighbors.

I knew John from SIRs and was greatly surprised to learn his wife was born in Eaton Colorado, my childhood territory. My dad was a farmer and worked for the Great Western Sugar Company and John's wife's father was chief architect for GWS. Small world. John was great fun to talk with, I saw him occasionally at Avenidas.

Anne, cousin John attended my 80th B-day party last May here in SF and was a great addition to the celebration. I'm so glad we stayed in touch. He was inspirational.

Anne, this is Wendy Arthurs, your childhood neighbor and friend. I'm so sorry to read of your Dad's passing. He was always kind, funny, interested and interesting to me as a young child, and great friends with my parents. My Dad kept in touch with yours til the end of his life, passing on news of you and your family, keeping me up on whatever news Dusty had proudly passed on to him. I would love to get back in touch with you. When you feel like it please contact me. If you are out here maybe we can get together.
