John Graham Obituary

John R. Graham

September 24, 1947 - August 9, 2016

Passed away peacefully in San Francisco on August 9, 2016 with his partner of 46 years at his side. John was from Richmond, California and there attended Woodrow Wilson Elementary School, Adams Jr. High, and he graduated from Richmond Union High School, class of '65. Throughout his life, John always looked forward to getting together with his high school classmates, with whom he was close. After graduation, he was active in the Theater Arts Program at Contra Costa College. In 1966 he joined the VISTA program, and spent time in West Virginia.
John was preceded in death by his parents Robert and Eleanor Graham and his favorite grandmother Pansy Spring. As a child, she took him to the Richmond Auditorium to watch wrestling and Roller Derby. He is survived by his domestic partner, John De Amicis, his cat Zoe, and many and dear friends
John was active at the Collins Center at St. Cecilia's Church where he showed movies twice a month; he also enjoyed his weekly bingo sessions there. Each year, he looked forward to volunteering to serve at the Thanksgiving Luncheon. John loved to laugh, tell stories, and could tell a good joke. He enjoyed going to the Theater, and the Symphony. He traveled extensively throughout most of the United States and he included beautiful cities and landmarks of Europe. Locally, he was always ready for a trip to Reno to feast at the buffets in the casinos. He would remain there for several hours to "...let the food digest".
A service will be held at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, August 23rd at St. Cecilia's Church -2555-17th Avenue (corner of Vicente). A reception at the Collins Center located behind the church will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Best Friends Animal Sanctuary, or St. Anthony's Dining Room.

Our Grandmothers were friends decades before we were even born. I grew to adore both. You were special to me in a million ways and of course, your humor is so high on the list. I shall always be grateful that you had such a deep and caring relationship with John-D. I loved that we could talk on the phone and it was like we had just spoken yesterday. You were such a beautiful spark here on earth. I shall miss you so much but have over 55 years of memories to cherish. Be in Peace my friend and keep smiling.
~Love you

We will remember John's warm and giving heart, and his great sense of humor. Our City lost a little bit of it's "sunshine".
