Horace Greeley class of `70 reunion today and John´s name came up. He left Chappaqua public schools after 7th grade but made many friends who reconnected later in life and remember him fondly. Sad to know that John is no longer in the world; he brought so much joy and excitement everywhere he went. Best to Patty and Priscilla.

I am proud to be Jonathan Dann's first cousin. He was a certainly a gentleman and accomplished person while he was alive! I hope and pray that his soul is resting comfortably in heaven!

I'm crushed to learn of Jon's passing and that I'm not able to attend his memorial. It seems like we were just on the phone talking about a project, though I'm sure it was more than a year ago now. We worked together on the KCET magazine, California Connected, and had a blast--among other things--plumbing water wars around Mt. Shasta and decoding the bizarre local politics of the Delta. I also had the privilege of interviewing his dad, Michael, who was a programming exec at CBS when the network was grappling with an upstart producer named Rod Serling. It was a true privilege to work with Jon and count him as a friend.

Jon was a great guy. I will miss our bike rides up Mt. Tam, après ski revelry, his searing intellect, and quirky sense of humor. Our hearts go out to Julie and all who held Jon dear. Rest in peace my friend.

Jon was my oldest friend. We grew up together in Chappaqua. I remember many great times at his house. Sledding on the hill in his back yard. The train set in the attic. Movies we would watch at his house that his Dad got for us with his connections at work. We had a road in the neighborhood we constantly made circuits around with our bikes. We explored the woods in the back of his house with a derelict barn and scary stories about who might live there. His mother used to take us on ski trips to Vermont during our winter breaks from elementary school. We even went to summer camp together for years and were in the same cabin. Once high school started we went to different schools, but had many adventures during the summer and on breaks. He used to visit me in Colorado and we went together on our first ski trip to the real mountains of Colorado. I visited him at Stanford and many times after that in the various places he lived in the Bay area. He was tremendously dedicated to his work in television and the documentaries he produced throughout his career. My last conversation with him was about a book I had written about my Dad in WW2. He was intensely interested in the regular people he'd had around him his whole life, and whether there might be remarkable stories there. He's gone way too soon.

I am shocked and saddened in Jon´s passing. I knew him from his days at Taft School, where I was on the faculty and we stayed in touch through his time at Stanford and he produced an interfaith Christmas program on CBS for the United Religions Initiative. I considered him as a good friend.

Jon was a great guy with a heart of gold; and he would yell at me for trivializing him with such hackneyed phrases. He was well read and always looking for ways to learn and share. He was also private. frustrating and a PIA. If he wasn´t such a great guy I would never have put up with him. Because his good points far outweighed the bad, I had the privilege of seeing him continue to grow for more than 40 years. I will miss him on the slopes, on the mountain, and on the phone. Hang in there Julie.

I first met Jon in 1966 at The Taft School in Watertown, CT. He was a smart, funny teen, a scrappy football and lacrosse player, and had a caustic wit. We once hitchhiked across the state for an illegal overnight at his family's house. He was a highly talented filmmaker and I enjoyed seeing him in SF every few years. I and many of his friends and fmaily will miss him dearly.
