Josephine Moggia Obituary

Josephine Rose Moggia 60, died Thursday, June 11, 2009 at her San Francisco home following a courageous battle with lung cancer. She was born January 16, 1949 in the city of San Francisco to the late Pasquale and Carmela Spagnuolo. She graduated from Balboa High School in 1967. Following high school, she worked for Blue Shield of California for 10 years. In 1980, she left the work force to focus on raising her children. She was active at both the School and Church of the Epiphany, where she served as past president of the Ladies Guild and was a member of the hospitality and finance committees. In her spare time, she also enjoyed serving as a volunteer in the kindergarten classroom. Josie will be remembered most as a loving wife, mother, and nonna. She loved nothing more than to prepare a hot Italian meal and spend time with her family and friends. In recent years, she took great joy in frequent visits to Carpinteria to visit her grandson and was eagerly anticipating the arrival of her granddaughter in July. Josephine is survived by her husband, Eugene; her son and his wife, Eugene Jr. and Laura; her son, David; her grandson, Santino; and her brother and his wife, Patrick and Christine Spagnuolo. She is further survived by her nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends and will be dearly missed by all. Friends and family may visit Monday, June 15 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Church of the Epiphany, 827 Vienna St. in San Francisco, and are also invited to attend the Rosary and Vigil at 7:00 p.m. The FUNERAL Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, June 16 at 11:00 a.m. at the Church of the Epiphany. Interment will be at the Italian Cemetery in Colma immediately following Mass. A memorial fund has been established in her name for the Bonnie J. Addario Lung Cancer Foundation. Donations may be made online at www.lungcancerfoundation.org. If you would like to donate by mail, please contact Sheila Von Driska at (415) 357-1278. Please indicate that your donation is in memory of Josephine Moggia. Donations also may be made to Hospice by the Bay, 1902 Van Ness Ave., SF, CA. 94109 in memory of Josephine Rose Moggia.
