Kind, generous, empathetic, Mom to everyone, Best Grandma, and dear friend, are just a few words that describe Julia Gorham who passed away peacefully, with her family at her side, after a short but courageous battle with cancer. Julia was born and raised in Oakland, Ca and attended Oakland High School and was a Nursing School student before being swept off her feet by her loving husband of 53 years Gerry Gorham. Juila was a devoted housewife who raised their 3 children Kevin, Jula, and Jennifer. Julia also had a passion for interior design. Designing homes gave Julia great joy.
After Julia's beloved husband Gerry passed in 2012, she moved to St. Paul's Towers where she resided for the next 12 years. Julia quickly fell in love with the St. Paul's Community and residents and staff immediately latched on to Julia as she was a kind, loving and respected resident who was loved by all.
Julia is one of the kindest people who never turned her back on anyone in need. She quietly and discreetly took care of anyone in need cause as she said it was the right thing to do and "how did I get so lucky?"
Julia was a dedicated wife, mom, lifelong mentor to scores of young people, and faithful friend to all. Kevin, Jula, and Jennifer were unconditionally loved and supported by their wonderful mother. Julia's most important and cherished role was as Grandma to Barbara, Hannah, Amanda, Lauren, Sean and Ashley and Great Grandma to Julian, Najima, Arielle, and Enzo.
The Celebration of Life will be conducted on Saturday, February 7th at 11 a.m. at Corpus Christi Church (322 St. James Dr. Piedmont, Ca. 94611 with a reception to follow at Lake Chalet (1520 Lakeside Dr. Oakland, Ca. 94612) Donations can be made to Encinal High School Leadership, 210 Central Ave, Alameda 94501 Attention Kevin Gorham.
